Zelensky criticizes China and Brazil's peace plan for war's end as "destructive" and favoring Moscow
The Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, slammed China and Brazil's proposed peace plan to end the war, stating it was "destructive" and pre-agreed upon with Moscow. He declared that the plan was merely a "political statement" and disregarded the actual situation on the ground.
Metropoles reported that.
Zelensky stressed that he had proposed to Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva that they address this issue together, but he was taken aback by Brazil's decision to adopt an "in-the-middle" stance and support Russia.
"Their proposal is also destructive; it's just a political statement. I told the president of Brazil: "Let's sit down together and talk." You are not our enemies; we are not your enemies. Why did you suddenly decide that you should side with Russia and be somewhere in the middle. We're not stupid," he said.
Zelensky also criticized the Brazilian government's position, saying that Brazil takes a "pro-Russian" position in the context of the war in Eastern Europe.
In particular, Zelensky expressed disappointment that Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is seeking "political appeasement" instead of taking a more vigorous position on the war.
"I had a good conversation with President Lula and thought he understood me. I was grateful to meet him and I was very open, absolutely open. I thought I would see in his experience an understanding of what was going on and not just political appeasement," he said.
Zelensky noted that he expected greater understanding from Lula after their meeting but stressed that Brazil's efforts to find a peaceful solution remain unsuccessful, as Russian dictator Volodymyr Putin, whom the Ukrainian leader called a "murderer," shows no intention of ending the war.
For reference:
Ukraine proposed its diplomatic path to achieving peace based on international law norms and the principles of the UN Charter. This plan is known as the "peace formula."
The first Ukraine Peace Summit occurred in Switzerland on June 15 and 16. Representatives of 100 countries and international organizations participated.
Despite the mass media's statement, the participants of the peace summit adopted a joint declaration. It was signed by 78 states and four organizations and outlined three main points related to nuclear, food, and humanitarian security.
Later, several other countries and organizations joined the communiqué.
Although countries such as China and Brazil have offered peace plans, Ukraine has rejected them as incompatible with its approach.
