Ukraine's armed forces take down Russian drone at record-breaking altitude of more than 3,600 meters
On September 7, in the Kharkiv region, the Iron Brigade successfully brought down a Russian-made high-altitude drone in an aerial confrontation, marking the first instance of such an achievement.
The press service of the Operational-tactical group "Kharkiv" reported that.
"Once the Orlan-10 UAV was detected, the Voron group from the anti-aircraft missile and artillery division promptly hurried to the designated area," the report says.
Once the Russian drone was spotted, the group worked together with the border guards to swiftly determine its course and altitude.
The military acknowledged that the search was challenging due to the drone's aerial movements and altitude of over three kilometers.
"However, the Voron team's skill and coordinated efforts enabled them to intercept and destroy the reconnaissance drone at a height of 3,620 meters. The footage captures the decisive moment of the attack," the message says.
For reference:
The Orlan drone, used by Russia in its war with Ukraine, has gained widespread recognition as an unmanned aerial vehicle. This UAV plays a crucial role in:
- reconnaissance,
- directing artillery fire,
- and even carrying out airstrikes.
Orlan has powerful cameras that enable precise reconnaissance over long distances, allowing Russian troops to identify Ukrainian forces' locations, numbers, and equipment.

Orlan-30 is a modified version of the Russian drone Orlan-10 used by the occupiers in the war against Ukraine:
- Its working radius is 500 km.
- The practical altitude can reach up to 5000 m.
- The drone has a working time of 8 hours.
- Its maximum flight speed is 150 km/h.
Additionally, these drones can carry a variety of payloads, such as:
- Digital aerial reconnaissance systems;
- Gyro-stabilized electro-optic infrared video systems;
- Electronic reconnaissance and direction-finding devices;
- Radiation background monitoring systems and more.
It should be noted that the Ukrainian defense forces used a ground drone to capture the Russian unmanned aerial vehicle Orlan.
It should be noted that since the beginning of the full-scale aggression, Ukraine's armed forces have destroyed almost 15,000 Russian drones.
