Russian drone violates Romanian airspace overnight
On the night of September 8, during a Russian shelling of Ukraine, a Russian drone entered Romanian airspace.
Rubryka reports this with reference to Romania's Ministry of National Defense.
After residents of Tulcea and Constanța counties alerted authorities to a possible air threat, the Romanian Air Force deployed two F-16 fighter jets to monitor the situation. The radar surveillance system tracked the drone as it briefly entered Romanian airspace before returning to Ukraine.
Romanian authorities believe the drone may have crashed in a deserted area near Periprava village, Tulcea County, where a search operation is underway.
The Ministry of National Defense condemned Russia's attacks on Ukrainian civilian infrastructure as "unjustified and in serious violation of international law." Ukraine's Air Force also confirmed the breach of Romanian airspace by Russian drones.
This is not the first incident involving Russian drones near Romania's border; in July, similar threats led Romania to scramble F-16 fighter jets amid a major air attack.
