Russian troops launch over 20 missiles on Kyiv, including ballistic and cruise missiles, and explosions heard in Kharkiv

On September 2, Russian troops initiated a large-scale missile strike on Ukraine. Multiple rounds of rockets targeted Kyiv, resulting in falling debris in several areas. Explosions were also heard in Kharkiv, Poltava, and Kryvyi Rih.

The Air Force, Kyiv City Military Administration, Kyiv Regional Military Administration, Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klychko, Serhii Popko, head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, and Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported that.

At 4:43 a.m., the initial batch of missiles was spotted in the Chernihiv area. It then proceeded to the Kyiv region, eventually altering its trajectory towards Poltava.

After just 20 minutes, the initial explosions rocked Kyiv as multiple waves of rockets bombarded the capital. The city and regional military authorities released statements regarding the efficacy of their air defense efforts.

At 5:35 a.m., more explosions were heard in Kyiv. Four minutes later, the Air Force reported on the final round of rocket attacks on the city.

In just an hour, the air raid alarm was called off in all areas except the Kharkiv region.

Attack on Kyiv

At 5:32 a.m., the Kyiv City Military Administration reported debris falling in the Sviatoshynsky district. Initial reports indicate that a car is on fire.

Mayor Klychko reported on the number of emergency calls in the Holosiivsky and Solomiansky districts.

Furthermore, the Kyiv City Military Administration reported debris falling in the Holosiivsky district. Preliminary reports suggest damage to non-residential structures. The information is currently being verified.

In the Sviatoshynsky district, debris also damaged non-residential premises.

Klychko later stated:

"Reportedly, there was falling debris in the Shevchenkivsky district. Emergency personnel are evaluating one person who was injured."

According to him, doctors were also called to the Sviatoshinsky and Shevchenkivsky districts.

At 5:57 a.m., the Kyiv City Military Administration reported that falling debris was recorded in the Holosiivsky, Sviatoshynsky, Dniprovsky, and Shevchenkivsky districts.

The mayor said a boiler house in the Holosiivsky district was partially destroyed. He also mentioned that the glass entrance to the Sviatoshyn metro station was damaged. Additionally, a kiosk near the underground entrance is currently on fire.

According to the Kyiv City Military Administration, the attack combined cruise and ballistic missiles.

"The missiles made their way into Kyiv via complicated maneuvers from the south. At the same time, the enemy fired KN-24/Iskander-M ballistic missiles over the city and its surrounding areas. Additionally, one drone attack was carried out," the message reads.

The administration announced that the air defense forces successfully destroyed over a dozen cruise missiles, approximately a dozen ballistic missiles, and an attack drone within the airspace of the capital.

"Due to the missile attack in the city, debris landed in the districts of Holosiivsky, Sviatoshynsky, Dniprovsky, and Shevchenkivsky. Initial reports indicate that there were car fires and damage to non-residential buildings," the Kyiv City Military Administration concluded.

"The data on the victims and the destruction are being clarified. As of now, we know about one person who was hospitalized. Still, his life is not in danger," the Kyiv City Military Administration spokesman, Mykhailo Shamanov, reported on the air on the Espresso channel.

Strike on Kharkiv

A blast was heard in the city at 5:30 a.m.

At 6 a.m., Mayor Terekhov wrote:

"There's been a fire at the garden association in the Industrialny district due to a missile strike (the type is yet to be determined). As for any casualties, no information has been received so far."

According to the local military authority, residential property and three other non-residential structures caught fire in the neighborhood association. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

"A 66-year-old woman was injured as a result of an enemy UAV attack in the Kyivsky region around 1:00 a.m. She refused to be hospitalized. A private house was damaged," the head of the regional military administration Synehubov noted.

Explosions in other cities

At midnight on September 2, residents of Kryvyi Rih reported hearing explosions. According to reporters from Suspilne, the sounds of an explosion were audible in the city.

Additionally, Suspilne received reports of explosions in Poltava at 1 a.m.

As the head of the regional military administration, Filip Pronin, reported on Telegram, the Russians attacked the Poltava region with drones that night.

"The anti-aircraft missile fired at enemy targets. Fortunately, no one was injured," Pronin emphasized.

At the same time, he mentioned that the drone pieces caused damage to the administrative and production buildings of one of the industrial sites.

As President Volodymyr Zelensky reported, Russia launched more than 160 missiles, 780 anti-aircraft missiles, and 400 drones over Ukraine last week.
