Ukrainian Oscar-winning director Chernov to receive top honor at International Broadcasting Convention
The International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) will bestow its top honor to Ukrainian war correspondent and director Mstyslav Chernov for his film "20 Days in Mariupol." The ceremony will be held on September 15.

IBC is an annual exhibition dedicated to the broadcast, electronic media, and entertainment industry.
Mstyslav Chernov is the journalist, director, and president of the Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers. Along with photographer Yevgeniy Maloletka and producer Vasilisa Stepanenko, they captured the onset of Mariupol's destruction by Russian troops and the siege of the city.
"20 Days in Mariupol", a documentary film based on the captured footage, won the Oscar for "Best Feature Documentary."
IBC-2024 awarded Mstyslav Chernov the highest award – the International Award for Achievement (IHFE).
"In awarding Mstyslav Chernov this year's IHFE Award for his work as a war correspondent, videojournalist, and filmmaker, we recognize the courage, creativity, skill, and determination he has shown in capturing some of the most compelling stories we have seen in the last few years.
At a time when it is essential to create videos that reveal the reality of conflicts around the world and challenge the spread of fake news and misinformation, Mstyslav and the team he works with exemplify integrity and are the best in our industry," IBC Director Mike Crimp emphasized.
The official award ceremony will take place on September 15 in Amsterdam.

Mstyslav Chernov's film "20 Days in Mariupol," which depicts the Russian army's siege of Mariupol in February and March 2022, won the Oscar for "Best Documentary." This marks Ukraine's first award in this category in the Oscars' history.
In addition to the Oscar, the film "20 Days in Mariupol" won the BAFTA Film Award and the Sundance Film Festival Audience Award.
In the Netherlands, the Ukrainian Oscar-winning film "20 Days in Mariupol" was recognized as the best full-length documentary at the Septimius Awards.
The film's authors, Mstyslav Chernov, Yevgeniy Maloletka, and Vasilisa Stepanenko, received the Shevchenko Prize for a series of journalistic materials about the siege of Mariupol and the Pulitzer Prize in the category "For Service to Society."
Mstyslav Chernov was also awarded the US Directors Guild Award for "Outstanding Directorial Achievements in Documentary Cinema."
It should be noted that Mstyslav Chernov's film "20 Days in Mariupol" became the highest-grossing documentary film at the Ukrainian box office.
The world premiere of "20 Days in Mariupol" took place at the Sundance 2023 independent film festival in the USA, where the film received the Audience Award.
The film was also released on Ukrainian streaming platforms: Takflix and Sweet.TV, Megogo, Kyivstar TV and Volia TV, Netflix.
