Belarus deploys aviation to down Russian drone in Ukraine attack for the first time
Belarus has recently utilized aviation to take down a Russian Shahed drone for the first time. Once again, an attack drone entered the Belarusian borders during Russia's assault on Ukraine.
The Belarusian Hajun monitoring group reported that.
As previously mentioned, on the night of August 29, another drone attack occurred when a Russian Shahed UAV once again entered the Yelsk district in Belarus. This took place at 3:30 a.m.
On the evening of August 28, the Homel Telegram channel "Flagstock" reported that a Belarusian fighter jet was seen flying in circles in the sky over Mozyr. Later, planes were heard over the city of Rechitsa and Homel itself.
"Tonight (on August 29, – ed), during another Russian attack on Ukraine, one of the Shahed drones again flew into the territory of Belarus, in the Yelsk district. This happened at 03:30 a.m.," the message says.
The monitoring group reported that a Shahed UAV entered Belarusian airspace and was chased by an Air Force fighter for approximately 20 minutes.
At approximately 03:55 a.m. in the Yelsk district of the Homel region, people reported hearing at least two explosions and witnessing a bright flash in the sky.
"Thus, this is probably the first recorded case when a fighter of the Air Force of the Republic of Belarus tried to destroy a real military target in the sky – a Russian kamikaze drone of the Shahed type," Hajun stated.

For reference:
Russian soldiers regularly launch attacks on Ukraine, utilizing both drones and missiles. Lately, it has become increasingly common for Russian Shahed to enter Belarusian airspace during their attacks on Ukraine.
The initial incident occurred on July 12, followed by instances on July 13, 16, and 31. As Hajun had previously estimated, at least nine Shahed UAVs were flown to Belarus in July. Prior to this, the Belarusian military only deployed aircraft in these situations but did not utilize them.
Russian troops launched a late-night attack against Ukraine using drone strikes on August 29. Multiple regions successfully repelled the assault with their anti-aircraft defenses, causing several explosions in Kyiv.
There were no direct hits in Kyiv, but pieces of the downed Shaheds were found in three districts of the city. In Holosiivsky and Dniprovsky districts, debris fell onto a residential building, and in Desniansky district, it fell onto a private house.
During the attack of the enemy on August 29, a dozen and a half Russian attack drones were destroyed in the Kyiv region. Fires started in the Kyiv region due to the Russian attack.
Also, a fire broke out at a private enterprise in Cherkasy due to falling debris from downed drones. In addition, Kharkiv was partially left without electricity due to enemy shelling.
In general, the army of the Russian Federation attacked Ukraine on the night of August 29 with three Kh-59/Kh-69 guided air missiles and 74 Shahed 131/136 attack drones.
