On the night of August 28, the Russian military deployed attack drones over Ukraine. Air defense was activated in the Kyiv region, and the debris of the Shahed drones fell in three districts of the capital. A house was damaged, and a gazebo caught fire. In Cherkasy, parts of the drone landed on a company's property, causing a fire.

The Air Force, Serhii Popko, the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, and Ihor Taburets, the head of the Cherkasy Regional Military Administration, reported that on Telegram.

At 10:50 pm, the Russians launched the initial Shahed from Kherson towards the Mykolaiv region. Subsequently, news surfaced about the unmanned aerial vehicle heading west from north of the Sumy region.

Later, it was discovered that a high-speed target was headed towards the Kyiv region from the Chernihiv region, and a rocket was launched from the Sumy region towards Myrhorod, passing through the Poltava region.

Kyiv and the region

The Kyiv City Military Administration (KCMA) reported that on Thursday night, as of 02:06, air defense was working on enemy drones in the region.

In Kyiv, debris was reported falling on a residential building in the districts of:

  • Dniprovsky,
  • Holosiivsky,
  • and Desniansky.

"The attack of enemy UAVs on Kyiv continues. Air defense is working in the capital. In the Dniprovsky district of the city, the fall of debris on the territory of residential buildings was previously recorded. According to operational information, there were no destruction or casualties. The data is being clarified and updated," said Serhii Popko, head of the KCMA.

No damage or casualties were reported at the site of Shahed fall, and no fire was detected.

The Mayor of Kyiv, Vitalii Klychko, reported that the debris fell on the playground between the houses.

Afterward, Popko stated that an unmanned aerial vehicle had attacked the Holosiivsky district of Kyiv, causing debris from the drone to fall onto a residential building. The apartment building's windows and doors were damaged. Details on any potential casualties are still being gathered. Emergency services have arrived at the site.

"According to the information of operational services, windows and doors in an apartment on the 6th floor of a residential building were damaged by debris in the Holosiivsky district of the capital.

A small fragment similar to a nut was found in the apartment. Emergency services are on the way. Information about the damage and the victims is being ascertained," Klychko informed.

He reported that emergency services were called to the Desniansky district, where, according to residents, the drone's debris fell. Units are heading to the location.

"In the Desniansky district, where the wreckage of the drone fell, a gazebo in a cottage town is on fire. Rescuers are on their way to the scene. No information about the victims has been received so far," the mayor of Kyiv wrote.

Popkov reported:

"Russian drones from the occupied Kherson region and Kursk region of Russia flew to Kyiv before midnight, at approximately 11:00 p.m."

The head of the KCMA also stated that the enemy Shahed drones had entered the capital in multiple waves and from various directions.

"More than a dozen enemy attack drones were destroyed by the forces and means of air defense (the exact number and type of drones will be made public by the Air Force)," he said in his message.

Explosions in Cherkasy

At 00:30, the Air Force issued an air raid alert for the area, cautioning against drone attacks.

The Air Force has reported that attack drones have been detected moving towards the region from the Poltava and Kirovohrad regions.

At 02:06 a.m., the locals reported explosions in the Cherkasy region.

Ihor Taburets, the head of the Cherkasy Regional Military Administration, stated that debris had fallen onto the premises of a private company in the regional capital.

"As a result of debris falling on the territory of one of the private enterprises of the regional center, a fire broke out. Its liquidation is ongoing. The operational services are working," informed the head of the Cherkasy Regional Military Administration.

As of 06:23 a.m., liquidation of the consequences continued.
