Rebuilding Ukraine: UNESCO and Japan to fund restoration of Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra temple
UNESCO and Japan will restore the Church of All Saints of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra National Reserve.
The Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra reported that the restoration work will take place within the framework of the UNESCO project and the Japanese Trust Fund, with the assistance of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine.
Ukraine was granted funding to restore cultural monuments damaged during the war. This includes not only sites destroyed by Russian attacks but also buildings that may suffer irreparable damage during wartime.
UNESCO is set to launch a competition to revise project documentation. The documentation was crafted 14 years ago, but since then, not only has the condition of the church declined, but new techniques for evaluating the state of historical sites and conducting restoration have emerged.
The church restoration project will be divided into three phases:
- updating documentation,
- prioritizing painting preservation,
- and completing restoration work.
A preparatory phase is currently underway, during which new data must be collected and analyzed.
For reference:
On August 20, Ukraine's parliament adopted a draft law prohibiting the activities of religious organizations connected to the Russian Federation in Ukraine.
