Rebuilding Ukraine: British government to aid five communities affected by Russian invasion

The British government's "Regional Recovery" project aims to assist five Ukrainian territorial communities that were heavily impacted by the Russian invasion: Bobrovytska (Chernihiv region), Duboviazumska (Sumy region), Novopokrovska (Kharkiv region), Ladyzhynska (Vinnytsia region), and Karolina—Buhazka (Odesa region). This project will aid these communities in creating development strategies until 2027 and presenting their investment potential to attract donor funds for the implementation of restoration projects.

Rubryka informs about this.

Communities will focus on:

  • restoration and construction of educational institutions,
  • reconstruction of rehabilitation centers and water supply systems,
  • repair buildings and roads destroyed by military equipment or damaged by explosions.

The strategies will allow communities to prepare for various development scenarios and identify priority areas for recovery and projects to achieve goals.

An investment presentation will help attract investors and donors to local restoration projects.

The presentation will cover a list of critical projects that need funding, an analysis and reasoning for each project, and an evaluation of its potential benefits.

"The restoration of communities is not only about the reconstruction of critical infrastructure but also about the development of the community, taking into account the interests and needs of its residents. Local development strategies will contribute to the sustainable development of territorial communities, identify critical restoration areas, and help effectively attract investments. We sincerely support the community's comprehensive approach to reconstruction based on the principle of "build better than it was," Wendy De Luca, head of Good Governance Fund Ukraine, Embassy of Great Britain in Kyiv, said.

The "Regional Recovery" project continues the cooperation of the government of Great Britain in the direction of reconstruction of Ukraine, which was started in 2022.

In the previous phase of the project, ten communities received assistance in developing recovery and development plans. For ten infrastructure objects, project and estimate documentation for capital repair and reconstruction of social infrastructure objects was designed for a total amount of 13 million hryvnias.

The DREAM system [Digital Restoration EcoSystem for Accountable Management – ed.] had 30 restoration projects entered and 28 training sessions were conducted.

As Rubryka mentioned, implementing green reconstruction is one strategy that can help boost Ukraine's economic potential and drive it toward higher growth and advancement. At the SolutionsHub event, Anastasiia Ivashyna, a climate expert from the Ecoaction NGO, shared insights on the necessary measures that communities should take for recovery and the ecological significance of this approach.
