For reference:
The Omsk Oil Refinery is Russia's largest oil refining enterprise, situated in Omsk and owned by Gazprom Neft (Oil).
The factory employs 3,600 people.
Altogether, the plant manufactures approximately 50 different oil products, including high-octane gas, diesel fuel, marine fuel, aviation gasoline, bitumen, domestic gas, technical sulfur, and other products used by the Russian military.
It should be noted that Ukraine began to strike Russian refineries and oil depots with drones in 2024 to reduce the enemy's military potential.
Based on information from British intelligence, the Russian government is attempting to strike a balance between safeguarding factories within their borders and supporting troops on the front lines. The military is given precedence over civilians.
President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine is well aware of Russian air defense strategies, particularly those targeting airfields and power plants. He mentioned that air defense systems protect Putin's country houses, Moscow and St. Petersburg, but not regular towns and cities.
Furthermore, on the evening of August 18, in the Rostov region, the oil depot in Proletarsk came under attack by kamikaze drones. The ensuing fire was difficult to put out, and it was later revealed that the attack was orchestrated by Ukrainian intelligence.
At the time, the governor of the region, Vasiliy Golubev, announced that the air defense forces successfully defended against an anti-aircraft missile attack in the southeast. Unfortunately, debris from the missiles caused a fire to break out in the industrial warehouses in Proletarsk, which ignited the diesel fuel.
Later on, it was revealed that the Ukrainian military had launched an attack on the "Kavkaz" plant situated in the Rostov region of the Russian Federation. The facility housed a supply of oil and oil products, which were also being provided to the Russian Federation's occupying army.
On August 23, there was another drone attack on an oil depot located in Russia's Rostov region. The fire has been ongoing for nearly a week since the last attack carried out by the Defense Forces.
