Head of State Volodymyr Zelensky said on National Flag Day of Ukraine that criminals who came to destroy Ukraine and brought ruins will have ruins at home.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated this.

"Today, as always on the eve of our Independence Day of Ukraine, we honor the Ukrainian national colors – our flag, which has led the Ukrainian people through history for centuries. These colors unite us; we are united by this flag with many generations of Ukrainians who fought for the sake of Ukraine, who freed our land from the invaders, who dreamed of an independent Ukraine, and who created our national statehood," the President said at a solemn event on the occasion of the National Flag Day of Ukraine.

He added:

"In our blue and yellow colors, the entire experience of the Ukrainian people. The memory of Ukrainians and the path of Ukraine. The path that was never easy but which made our people just like that. So brave, as the people of the Cossack nation were and always will be. So strong, who inspire the whole world. Bringing back not only for themselves but also for the people of other nations, the confidence that there is still a place for justice in our world."

Zelensky added that Ukrainians are winning back the right to:

  • justice,
  • freedom
  • national dignity,
  • security and on one's own state.

"… and the fact that the criminals who came to destroy Ukraine and brought the ruins to our home will definitely have the ruins at home," the head of state emphasized.

The head of state also emphasized that Ukraine will protect its independence and rebuild the country. He noted:

"We have to rebuild Ukraine, our home, after this war. So that our Ukrainian blue and yellow [flag – ed.] will fly as Ukraine deserves – over a proud land and in the middle of a safe, free, European life."

The following officials also took part in raising the national flag:

  • Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal,
  • Minister of Defense Rustem Umerov,
  • the head of Ukraine's intelligence, Kyrylo Budanov,
  • head of the Office of the President, Andrii Yermak,
  • representatives of law enforcement agencies and government officials.

As reported, today, August 23, Ukraine celebrates the National Flag Day.

It should be noted that the survey showed that if a referendum were held today regarding Ukraine's declaration of state independence, the absolute majority of Ukrainians (85%) would support independence.
