Germany has provided Ukraine with a new military aid package that includes the IRIS-T air defense system and Vector drones.

The German government's press service reported this.

The new aid package includes:

  • one air defense system IRIS-T SLS;
  • 14 thousand cartridges of 155 mm caliber;
  • Ten unmanned surface ships;
  • 16 Vector reconnaissance drones with spare parts;
  • materials for disposal of explosive objects;
  • six highly mobile mining excavators;
  • one Bergepanzer 2 armored repair and evacuation vehicle with spare parts;
  • 55 thousand first aid kits;
  • 700 MK 556 assault rifles;
  • Ten high-precision HLR 338 rifles with cartridges;
  • 50 CR 308 rifles.

For reference:

Germany is a top provider of military assistance to Ukraine, supplying them with air defense systems, tanks, armored vehicles, various caliber projectiles, and other military equipment.

It was also reported that Germany, considering the third Patriot air defense system to be delivered soon, will transfer a quarter of its own stock of these anti-aircraft missile systems (SAMS) to Ukraine.

Within the Security Capacity Building Initiative Fund framework, Germany allocated approximately 7.1 billion euros for military aid to Ukraine in 2024 alone. This amount includes Berlin's contributions to the European Peace Fund (EPF).

As of the end of May, the German government reported on allocations for military aid to Ukraine approximately:

  • 5 billion euros in 2023,
  • around 1.6 billion euros in 2022.

An extra €2.9 billion has been allocated in the first two years of the war, but it will not be received until 2025-2028.

Germany has already delivered approximately 5.2 billion euros worth of equipment from its armed forces stockpile (estimated cost to replace transferred equipment).

Also, about 10,000 Ukrainian soldiers underwent military training in Germany, which cost approximately 282 million euros.

It was also reported that Germany, considering the third Patriot air defense system, which will soon be delivered, will transfer a quarter of its own stock of these anti-aircraft missile systems (SAMS) to Ukraine.

Germany last provided military assistance to Ukraine at the beginning of June this year. At that time, the package included IRIS-T air defense systems, HIMARS multiple-launch rocket systems, and Leopard 1 tanks.
