Ukraine has launched largest attack on Russian airfields since full-scale war's start
Since the start of the all-out war, Ukraine launched its biggest attack on the airfields of the Russian Federation. The air bases of Voronezh, Kursk, Savasleyka, and Borysoglebsk were targeted.
RBC-Ukraine reports this, referring to its sources.
As reported by individuals in the publication, the Security Service of Ukraine and the Defense Forces (consisting of the Air Force, Special Operations Forces, Center for Unmanned Systems, and other branches of the Ukrainian military) launched a massive attack on Russian military airfields, the biggest of its kind seen during the entire war.
It was "noisy" at the following airports today:
- "Voronezh",
- "Kursk",
- "Savasleyka",
- "Borysoglebsk".
According to media reports, this was a carefully planned operation to prevent the enemy from using these airfields to launch missile strikes on the front lines and Ukrainian cities.
In the meantime, the so-called Russian military bloggers are already voicing their dissatisfaction on social media, claiming that the strike was successful and that the Russian air defense failed to protect these targets.
Local Telegram channels write about ten explosions at the Savasleyka airfield, from where MiG-31K fighters regularly take off and terrorize the whole of Ukraine.
"The Security Service of Ukraine continues to weaken the aviation component of the Russian war machine methodically. It is the planes that currently give the enemy an advantage in the air, but we will continue to limit their power by "clipping the wings" of these "birds"," the informed source added.
For reference:
Last night, Russia faced a massive drone attack. While the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation claimed to have destroyed 117 drones across eight regions of the aggressor country, Russian military officials reported that three airfields were targeted.
One of them is Savasleyka, where MiG–31Ks frequently take off. These aircraft can carry the Kh–47m2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missile, which Ukrainian air defense systems have difficulty intercepting.
DefenseExpress experts have highlighted the fact that the targeted Savasleyka air base lacked proper anti-aircraft defense, and its planes were left exposed. By simply destroying the fuel reserves, the situation has become exceedingly dire.
The Russians also voiced concerns about the fire near the Baltimore airfield and reported on the assault at the Borisoglebsk airfield. However, there is currently no update on last night's attack at the Kursk airfield.
According to reports, towards the end of last week, the Ukrainian Defense Forces successfully attacked strategic targets on Russian territory, causing significant damage to the Russian airfield Lipetsk, which subsequently caught fire.
As a result of the night attack, warehouses with guided aerial bombs and several other objects in the vicinity of the airport were hit. Several ignition sources were recorded, an intense fire broke out, and multiple detonations were observed.
Moreover, at the beginning of August, the Defense Forces "cleared" the airfield Morozovsk of anti-aircraft missiles and fighters.
At that point, the General Staff officially confirmed the use of drones by Ukraine's armed forces to attack the Morozovsk airfield near Rostov. The targeted warehouse containing ammunition was successfully hit.
