Ukrainian air defense forces shoot down dozens of Russian drones in nighttime ballistic missile and UAV attack

On August 13, during the nighttime, Russian troops launched an attack on Ukraine's territory utilizing ballistic weapons and kamikaze drones. Fortunately, the air defense forces successfully destroyed thirty-six enemy Shahed drones.

Lieutenant General Mykola Oleshchuk, the Air Force Ukraine's armed forces commander, reported that on Telegram.

According to the general, the Russians launched an air attack on Ukraine on the night of August 13.

This included the firing of:

  • two Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles from the Voronezh region in Russia,
  • 38 attack drones from the Primorsko-Akhtarsk and Kursk regions.

Oleshchuk stated that to fend off the enemy's air attack, the following were utilized:

  • mobile fire teams,
  • aircraft,
  • anti-aircraft missile units,
  • and electronic warfare tools.

According to the commander, Ukrainian air defense shot down 30 Shahed drones in the Mykolaiv, Vinnytsia, Sumy, Kirovohrad, Kherson, Chernihiv, Dnipropetrovsk, and Cherkasy regions in total.

In turn, the Defense Forces of South of  Ukraine reported that on the night of August 13, 2024, 15 Shahed-136/131 attack drones were shot down by the air defense of southern Ukraine in the south of the country.

In addition, last day, August 12, 2024, three Russia's reconnaissance UAVs were destroyed:

  • two "Supercam" drones,
  • One "ZALA."

On the evening of August 12, the Air Force stated that Russian invaders had launched Shahed-type drones to attack Ukraine.

Ukraine declared an air raid alert in multiple regions, which then extended to the city of Kyiv. There were also reports of a potential attack by occupiers using ballistic weapons.

The Russian army shelled the city of Bakhmach in the Chernihiv region, and blasts were heard in the Sumy region and the regional center itself. In Sumy, a Russian air attack on critical facilities has caused a power outage and water supply disruption in one of the city's neighborhoods.

Last night, three air alerts were announced in Kyiv and the region. It was reported about the threat of the occupiers using ballistic weapons for strikes.
