Ukrainian FPV drone makes historic hit on Russian rotorcraft in mid-air clash

On August 6, an incident took place in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation, resulting in damage to a Russian Mi-28 helicopter due to an attack by a Ukrainian FPV drone.

Militarnyi reported this after analyzing the Russian military's posts on Telegram. Ukrainian Pravda also wrote that Ukraine's Security Service special forces were probably involved in this attack.

According to the report, blogger Aleksey Zemtsov, who manages the Telegram channel called "Voevoda veshchaet," verified that there was indeed damage. However, the drone's specific model was not specified. He mentioned that following the attack, the helicopter crew was able to retreat and safely land the aircraft, and the helicopter is currently undergoing repairs. Zemtsov also mentioned that the crew survived the attack.

The footage shared on private Telegram channels depicts the FPV drone colliding with the rotorcraft's tail, which resembles that of the Mi–28.

According to sources from Ukrainian Pravda, the Security Service's special forces were responsible for the attack on the Russian Mi–28. A source quoted by the publication stated that soldiers from the Special Operations Center "A" carried out the operation, explicitly targeting the helicopter's rear propeller.

"The video clearly shows how a Security Service's drone hits the tail of an enemy helicopter… We still have many unexpected surprises for the Russians," an informed source in Ukraine's Security Service reported.

It is essential to mention that the Mi–28 is an attack helicopter designed to destroy armored vehicles, air targets, and enemy personnel.

On August 6, the Russian authorities reported an alleged mass attack by drones and missiles from Ukraine on the Kursk region. Subsequently, the Sumy military administration announced that the Ukrainian military had shot down a Russian Ka-52 helicopter over the Sumy region.

The military-analytical project DeepState has published photos of probably destroyed Russian equipment in the Kursk region, where, according to some reports, Ukrainian troops broke through on August 6. A Ka-52 helicopter was among the destroyed equipment.

Also, on August 1, near Donetsk, the Russian occupiers lost an Mi-8 helicopter that was transporting the wounded.
