A unique veterans' hub will open in Chernivtsi, in the historic lodge of Emperor Franz Joseph I. Here, defenders who have returned from the front can undergo art therapy.

According to Gazeta.ua, Oleksii Boyko, head of the Chernivtsi regional council, reported this.

What is the problem?

Veterans returning to civilian life often have trouble adapting to new realities and need support in solving many issues.

What is the solution?

So, in Chernivtsi, at the historic residence of Emperor Franz Joseph I, a one-of-a-kind center for veterans will be established, providing returning soldiers with the opportunity to engage in art therapy.

How does it work?

"Our theater's actor and combat veteran, Oleksii Nadkernychny, played a key role in forming the hub. After his return from the front, he currently serves as an assistant director for the theater. His fellow comrades brought him the idea of giving veterans the opportunity to try their hand on stage. This could involve a tour of the theater, new productions, or even readings of poetry," Oleksii Boyko says.

The hub is scheduled to open in the fall, with the issues of accessibility and barriers resolved.

"This place will become a space for communication between veterans and art. Soldiers will be able to attend rehearsals and premieres and meet with actors and artists," the head of the council adds.

Director of the Chernivtsi theater Ivan Buniak noted:

"The imperial lodge, built in 1905 with a separate entrance, will be a place for meetings and events for veterans. The idea belongs to Oleksii Nadkernychny. The repertoire will differ, from poetic evenings to large theatrical projects."

The organizers want to clarify that the veteran hub is not meant to isolate soldiers but rather to help them adapt. The facility will be open and welcoming to all veterans, facilitating their transition into a peaceful civilian life.

In the upcoming theater season, a production will showcase the poetry of Serhii Skald, a poet and warrior who passed away at "Azovstal" in Mariupol in 2022. The cast will be composed of members from the hub, some of whom are veterans with no prior acting experience, bringing his poetry to life on stage.

It should be noted that the National University "Kyiv-Mohyla Academy" is preparing to launch a Resource Center for veterans and has organized a panel discussion titled "Education for Veterans: Navigating a Successful Return to Civilian Professional Life."

According to reports, Ukraine has released a series entitled "People with War Experience: Dignity and Interaction," which explores how to interact with individuals who have experience with combat.

Currently, Olena Zelenska presented the fourth educational series, "People with war experience. Dignity. Interaction", which deals with correct interaction with veterans and veterans with noticeable disabilities.
