The spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Heorhiy Tykhyi, stated this during a briefing in Kyiv on July 30, according to Radio Svoboda.
In particular, the representative of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reported that during the recent visit of Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba to China, they discussed the logic of Ukraine's actions after the first peace summit.
Kyiv expressed hope for China's active participation in interim meetings that will be held before the subsequent major negotiations.
"We have explained in detail how we will proceed to the second summit and invited China to participate in at least intermediate meetings, just as we invite all peace-loving countries that respect the UN Charter," Tykhyi said.
As the spokesman noted, China has not yet confirmed its participation in these meetings, but the Ukrainian side hopes for a positive response.
"It can be said that they carefully accepted this proposal, but I will stop there for now, and we will not announce any further. We will see how the situation develops," Tykhyi added.
In addition, Ukraine made an official invitation to Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to visit Kyiv.
"We are ready to welcome Minister Wang Yi to Ukraine so that he can see with his own eyes the consequences of Russian aggression against our country," Tykhyi added.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs representative emphasized that a direct dialogue between Kyiv and Beijing is extremely important for discussing peace and bilateral relations.
According to him, the dialogue between the countries has noticeably intensified and has been developing dynamically since the beginning of 2024. Tykhyi also emphasized that "it is essential that Kyiv and Beijing conduct a direct dialogue, especially on issues of peace."
"We have extended an invitation and are ready to welcome Minister Wang Yi to Ukraine so that he can see with his own eyes the consequences of Russian aggression against our country. We are also ready to negotiate deeper bilateral with him on several bilateral, regional, and international issues. And I am sure that the dialogue between Ukraine and China will continue at all levels," the spokesman said.
It is yet to be seen if China will accept the invitation, but Beijing's response will hold significance for the progress of the peace process. The Ukrainian government is prepared to keep engaging in talks and cooperate with all concerned parties to achieve lasting peace.
For reference:
On June 15 and 16, a peace summit of Ukraine took place in Switzerland. Representatives of 100 countries and international organizations took part in it.
Despite the mass media's statement, the peace summit participants adopted a joint declaration signed by 78 states and four organizations. The declaration outlined three main points related to nuclear, food, and humanitarian security.
China decided not to participate in the Global Peace Summit regarding Ukraine. The People's Republic of China and Brazil supported the conference on peace in Ukraine only with the participation of Russia.
It is worth adding that EU High Representative Josep Borrell said that Ukraine will continue to look for ways to hold the next peace conference with the participation of the Russian Federation, but not on the terms of the head of the Kremlin, Vladimir Putin.
