Russia faces mass UAV attack in five regions overnight
On the night of July 29 in Russia's Voronezh region, a fire broke out in the Ostrogozhskyi district due to a drone attack and air defense efforts. This marked the fifth region where measures were taken to fend off a UAV attack.
The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation and the governor of the Voronezh region, Aleksandr Gusev, reported that on Telegram.
As stated in the morning reports of the defense department of the aggressor country, 39 drones were allegedly "intercepted and destroyed" by means of air defense, namely:
- 19 UAVs – in the Kursk region,
- Nine drones – in the Belgorod region,
- Five drones – in Bryansk region,
- Three UAVs – in the Voronezh region,
- Three drones – in the Leningrad region.
The ministry traditionally blames Ukraine for the nighttime drone attack on objects on the territory of the Russian Federation.
The Russian agency hasn't mentioned any consequences resulting from the air defense operation and the repulsion of the air attack in the regions.
Voronezh region
Instead, the Voronezh governor announced in the morning that a drone was apparently detected and "suppressed" in the Ostrogozhskyi district using air defense and electronic warfare (EW).
"During its fall, an object of communal infrastructure in the village of Gazoprovod was damaged," the Russian official said, adding that emergency services were dispatched to the scene.
Belgorod region
That night, explosions were also heard in the Belgorod region as a result of a drone attack, and a substation in the village of Tomarovka was hit, and a fire broke out.
As the Telegram channel "Pepel Belgorod" writes, this object was attacked by drones and caught fire around midnight.
It is also noted that after that the light went out in the settlement itself.
Local chats and Z-media [Russian propaganda media that support the war against Ukraine] have reported multiple attacks on the substation in Tomarovka, and following the recent fire, there are also issues with communication.
The network also aired footage of a power station on fire.
There is talk among the Russian citizens about a fire at a substation in the Belgorod region caused by a drone strike.
However, the governor of the region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, did not mention any air attacks using drones on that night in his Telegram channel.
Instead, a Russian official wrote at around four o'clock about the threat of a missile for the city of Belgorod, the Shebekino and Shebekino districts. However, it was later announced that the threat had been averted.
Kursk region
Furthermore, officials from the Kursk region reported that 13 drones were reportedly shot down by air defenses. However, social media stated that there were explosions and strikes in various parts of the region, as well as damage to a power station.
Around 10 p.m., the governor of the Kursk region, Aleksey Smirnov, reported about the air defense forces and their efforts in the region.
According to him, at least one aircraft-type drone was shot down in the Medven district.
Around midnight, he mentioned that 12 more Ukrainian drones were reportedly shot down in the Oboyansky and Medvensky areas.
Meanwhile, footage of explosions, purportedly taking down drones, and reports of nighttime assaults started surfacing on the network, particularly in the Solntsevsky and Pristensky districts.
In addition, the public is supposedly writing about a damage to the substation, but at this time, this information has not been verified.
Furthermore, the "Zhest Kursk" Telegram channel mentioned a significant number of drones heading towards Kursk from varying directions.
Oryol region
Also, in the Oryol region, a fire broke out at an electric substation due to a drone strike, which was confirmed by the local governor, Andrey Klychkov.
He said that two drones got shot down in the Glazunovsky district last night. There were no injuries, but the local power plant suffered some damage.
"The operational services are dealing with the elimination of the consequences of the air attack, law enforcement agencies are working at the scene," Klychkov wrote.
Eyewitnesses posted a video on the Internet showing a drone attack.
For reference:
It should be noted that on the night of July 28, an oil depot was burning in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation, as the Russians claimed it was due to an attack by Ukrainian drones.
This oil depot was already attacked in February. Then, as a result of the drone attack, two diesel fuel tanks of 1000 cubic meters and 400 cubic meters burst into flames.
Furthermore, on the night and morning of July 27 in Russia, Ukraine's intelligence carried out an operation resulting in the attack of three military airfields, a damaged oil refinery, and a damaged supersonic bomber.
As Rubryka previously reported, explosions rang out in Ryazan of the Russian Federation at night and in the morning. Reports suggested that the targets may have been an oil refinery and a military airfield, with local authorities issuing a warning about a potential drone attack.
