“We’ll keep rallying a coalition of proud nations to stop Putin from taking over Ukraine” – Biden

During his speech to the nation, President Joe Biden described his decision to withdraw from the election as a means of passing the baton to the next generation. He believes this is the most effective method for bringing the country together. He also affirmed his commitment to uniting the global community against Putin's aggression, bolstering NATO, standing by allies in other parts of the world, and working towards the betterment of Americans until the end of his term in the White House.

Biden said this in an address to the nation.

In his speech, Biden described the 2024 election as a fight to save democracy and said nothing can stand in its way.

"I believe my record as president, my leadership in the world, and my vision for America's future all merited a second term, but nothing, nothing can come in the way of saving our democracy, and that includes personal ambition.

So, I've decided the best way forward is to pass the torch to a new generation. This is the best way to unite our nation."

Biden also promised to rally the world against Putin and strengthen NATO for the rest of his presidency, and work for the good of Americans.

"Over the next six months, I'll be focused on doing my job as president," Biden emphasized.

He noted that he would continue to work to ensure that America remains a strong leader in the free world.

"I'm the first president in this century to report to the American people that the United States is not at war anywhere in the world. We'll keep rallying a coalition of proud nations to stop Putin from taking over Ukraine and doing more damage," Biden emphasized.

He stressed that he would work to make NATO a stronger, more united, and more powerful alliance than ever before.

"I'll keep doing the same for allies in the Pacific," the US president added.

Biden also noted that he will continue to make efforts to resolve the situation in Gaza and return peace and security to the Middle East, as well as to end the endless wars in the region.

"We're also working around the clock to bring home Americans being unjustly detained all around the world," the president emphasized.

In addition, he shared plans for the next six months to resolve domestic American issues. In particular, he promised:

  • to work to reduce costs for workers' families,
  • to develop American economy,
  • to protect freedoms and rights of citizens.

In addition, he said, efforts will be made to counter hatred and extremism, as well as to protect children from gun violence. Separately, the president noted that he would call for reform of the US Supreme Court in order to guarantee the safety of democracy in the country.

Biden also called the climate crisis an existential threat to the planet and promised to continue the anti-cancer program to end the threat of cancer, at least in its current form.

For reference:

The White House has mocked calls from Biden's opponents to step down now, stressing that the president is determined to do even more for the country before his term ends.

"This is in response to the statements that I have heard about his resignation from the post: we believe that any calls for this resignation are absurd," White House spokeswoman Karin Jean-Pierre said on Wednesday in Washington.

She emphasized that President Biden has achieved significant success in the years since the beginning of his term.

"He was able to do more than any president in two terms… And he wants to finish the job he started and achieve even more historic results for the American people," she noted.

It should be noted that on the evening of July 21, US President Joe Biden announced that he was withdrawing from the election race and supported the candidacy of his vice president, Harris. This means that he will serve as head of the White House until next January, when the new US president is inaugurated.

Harris garnered sufficient backing from delegates to secure the Democratic Party's nomination for the presidential candidate. She is expected to be formally nominated on August 7.
