Russia claims 75 Ukrainian drones downed as Tuapse refinery goes up in flames
The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that, allegedly, during the night, air defense equipment shot down 75 Ukrainian UAVs over the territory of Russia and in the waters of the Black and Azov Seas. In the city of Tuapse, a refinery was burning, and in Morozovsk, where the military airfield is located, a massive column of black smoke was filmed.
The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation and Russian Telegram channels reported that on Telegram.
According to reports:
- 47 drones were intercepted and destroyed over the Rostov region;
- eight were intercepted and destroyed over the Krasnodar Territory of the Russian Federation;
- and one each over the Belgorod, Voronezh, and Smolensk regions;
- additionally, another 17 UAVs were reportedly shot down over the Black and Azov Seas.
The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation traditionally does not report any consequences of the attack and downing of drones.
The operational headquarters of the Krasnodar region of the Russian Federation reported that "as a result of the fall of UAV debris, the infrastructure of the oil refinery in Tuapse was damaged."
"Specialists are extinguishing the fire on an area of 50 square meters. Thirty-one units of equipment and 91 people are working on the spot. The fire was localized, and the open burning was extinguished. According to preliminary information, there are no casualties," the message says.
However, the Russian Telegram channel "Ostrozhno, novosti" published a video of the attack on the oil refinery in Tuapse. It shows a drone flying, gunshots (presumably from small arms), and the drone hitting its target, followed by a fire.
From the preliminary information provided by the Shot channel, it appears that Russia has activated its air defense system in the city due to the possibility of drones targeting the local oil refinery.
As residents told the channel, explosions from the local oil depot began to sound around 3:30 a.m. and about five loud bangs were heard in total. Before this, eyewitnesses reported the characteristic sounds of a UAV flight.
According to reports, there was another round of explosions in Tuapse in the morning. The oil depot was once again targeted. Pieces from one of the "downed" drones fell onto the company's premises, causing a fire to break out.
RIA Novosti, referring to the operational headquarters, reports that the infrastructure of the oil refinery in Tuapse has been damaged. Experts are eliminating the fire in an area of 50 square meters.
The Telegram channel "Ostrozhno, novosti" also reports that drones in the Rostov region targeted the city of Morozovsk, near a military airfield.
Governor Vasyl Golubev assures that the drones were shot down, and as a result of falling debris, "dry vegetation" allegedly only caught fire.
For reference:
In recent months, there have been almost nightly attacks by kamikaze attack drones on oil refineries and military facilities not only in the border areas of Russia but also in the depths of the territory of the Russian Federation.
On the evening of Saturday, July 13, an oil depot in the Rostov region, located in the southern part of Russia, caught fire. According to local officials, this was the result of a drone attack.
On the night of July 9, Russian resources reported a massive drone attack. In the Russian city of Kalach-on-Don, a fire broke out at an oil facility in the early morning of July 9 due to an attack by drones.
On the night of July 6, in the Krasnodar Territory (Russia), two oil depots caught fire due to a drone attack, and a cellular tower was also damaged.
Additionally, it has been reported that during the evening of July 1st, a Russian air defense system purportedly intercepted and destroyed 36 Ukrainian drones in the Bryansk, Belgorod, and Kursk regions.
Furthermore, on the evening of June 30, nearly 40 attack drones of aircraft type launched an assault on multiple Russian regions, including Kursk, Belgorod, and Bryansk. Explosions were reported, and air defense systems were activated.
On June 21, in Russia's Krasnodar region, the locations where Shahed kamikaze drones were stored were targeted in an attack. The Navy, in collaboration with the Security Service of Ukraine, organized and executed the assault.
