Solutions to win: Ukraine’s State Border Service creates first unit of unmanned systems for border security
The State Border Service of Ukraine has begun forming the first unit of unmanned systems in the "Pomsta" brigade, which means "Revenge" in Ukrainian.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine reported that.
What is the problem?
Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are a top priority for the military due to their significant impact in modern warfare, with the number of drone strikes equaling that of artillery.
According to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, the most important task of technologies and innovations is to save the lives of Ukrainian soldiers.
"Unmanned systems are one of the most dynamic areas where changes occur every day, and we have no right to lag behind even a step. We have a clear plan of action," Syrsky emphasized.
What is the solution?
The border guard combat unit known as the Offensive Guard Brigade "Pomsta" was the first to establish a new unit, the command for reconnaissance and strike unmanned aircraft complexes.
How does it work?
According to the department's report, the "Pomsta" brigade is one of the most successful groups within the State Border Service. Dmytro Oleksiuk, a Ukrainian hero, was given the responsibility of creating a unit of unmanned attack drones (RUBAK).
In the past, Oleksiuk specialized in the development of UAV attack strategies while serving under the Phoenix and Pomsta border commanders.
"His fighters and drones helped identify and destroy many military targets of the occupiers, including stopping large-scale assaults in which the enemy used infantry, tanks, and armored personnel carriers," the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.
The RUBAK of the Offensive Guard Brigade "Pomsta" will use a wide range of various aircraft and copter-type drones, including:
- FPV,
- night bombers,
- light reconnaissance UAVs.

Fighters and commanders with successful practical experience working with UAVs will be the backbone of RUBAK's first border command post.
At this moment, the selection of specialists for this unit has begun.
"We need UAV operators, engineers, sappers and people who want to learn specialties related to the combat use of UAVs and bring the Victory of Ukraine closer in a motivated unit of the famous brigade that seeks Revenge against the enemy," the brigade said.
For reference:
It should be noted that border guards have been fighting since 2014. The 3rd border detachment played an important role in the protection of the state border and the fight against Russian terrorists.
In January 2024, the 3rd border detachment, named after the Hero of Ukraine, Yevhen Pikus, became a brigade and received the name "Pomsta" (Revenge).
In particular, in February of this year, border guards of the Pomsta brigade, together with their comrades from other units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine, defeated an enemy armored group near Bakhmut.
Also, in the spring, the Pomsta brigade was involved in the defense of the Ukrainian city of Chasiv Yar. The State Border Service of Ukraine said that initially, the border guards had to establish themselves at the second border.
It is worth adding that the Unmanned Systems Force was created on May 7. The Cabinet of Ministers [Ukraine's government – ed.] supported the draft of the President's decree on the creation of this type of troops.
A neural network-created swallow became the symbol of a new kind of troop. According to the command idea, the swallow is one of the most revered symbols in Ukrainian culture, which means the news of victory.
