Eco-solutions: schoolboy from Kamianets-Podilskyi develops noiseless wind generator

Artem Yasynsky, a 6th-grade student at Lyceum No. 1 in Kamianets-Podilskyi, Khmelnytskyi region, recently showcased his one-of-a-kind vertical wind generator model at the All-Ukrainian competition "Energy efficiency and ecology for schoolchildren."

What is the problem?

As a result of Russian aggression, Ukraine has been dealing with an electricity shortage. Last year and currently, the country has experienced frequent blackouts lasting several hours. These issues continue in regions near the frontlines due to the ongoing invasion. 

Various alternatives are being utilized to ensure adequate lighting for Ukrainians. 

What is the solution?

Therefore, Artem Yasynsky, a young scientist studying at Kamianets-Podilskyi Lyceum, created a groundbreaking vertical windmill model that addresses the main issues with traditional wind turbines. 

As announced by the city council, Artem won the contest for the top eco-projects. The nationwide competition "Energy Efficiency and Ecology for Students" showcased ideas with the potential to make a difference in the future.

How does it work?

This innovative installation can operate at wind speeds of 1.3 m/s, silently capturing wind from any direction.

During the presentation, Artem explained that his wind generator has a lower starting force than traditional horizontal models. Due to its design, it can be installed on building roofs and balconies.

The collector electric motor with direct current is the basis for electricity generation. The scheme also includes a charging module, switches, a solar panel, and a lithium-polymer battery.

Yasinsky emphasized the need to consider daily, seasonal, and monthly changes in wind speed when choosing a place to install a wind generator.

In his project, he conducted a study of wind intensity in Kamianets-Podilskyi and calculated the dependence of voltage on wind speed, which enabled him to achieve high installation efficiency even at low wind speeds.

The Kamianets-Podilskyi City Council noted that this invention opens up new opportunities for using wind energy in the urban environment.

It should be noted that the German government financed the renovation of the premises of the Solonian multidisciplinary hospital. Solar power plants have also been installed in the hospital and the local lyceum. The total cost of equipment and construction works exceeds UAH 13 million.
