Russia declares refusal to join second Peace Summit

Russia will not participate in the second Peace Summit because it believes the "peace formula" is presented in "an ultimatum" format.

RIA Novosti writes that Mikhail Galuzin, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the aggressor country, stated this.

The official called the "peace formula" the "dead end and ultimatum" and complained about the deliberate "ignoring of other initiatives" to end the war in Ukraine.

"There is another manifestation of fraud. We do not accept such ultimatums, and we are not going to participate in such summits," foreign minister's deputy said.

According to Bloomberg, Kyiv wants to hold the second peace summit with Russia's participation before the November presidential elections in the USA.

"The effort to organize a meeting on the eve of the US elections indicates a sense of urgency on the part of Ukraine, as it faces the prospect of Donald Trump's return to the White House," the publication noted.

Bloomberg recalls that the presumptive candidate for the US presidency from the Republican Party boasted that he would end the war before his inauguration in January and opposed the continuation of US military support to Kyiv.

For reference:

The first Peace Summit took place in Switzerland on June 15 and 16. Representatives of 100 countries and international organizations participated.

Despite the mass media's statement, the participants of the peace summit adopted a joint declaration signed by 78 states and four organizations. The declaration outlined three main points related to nuclear, food, and humanitarian security.

Later, several other countries and organizations joined the communiqué.

Subsequently, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced his desire to hold the second Peace Summit this year and expressed hope for the United States' support in this matter.

Also, during a speech at the Reagan Institute in Washington on the sidelines of the NATO summit, the Head of State mentioned the first Peace Summit in Switzerland, attended by 101 states and international organizations.

In response, he said, Putin held his own summit – with Kim Jong-un in Pyongyang – to get more artillery for the war against Ukraine.

"We must respond firmly to this and can organize a second peace summit this year, based on the peace formula, which is even more powerful and decisive. And we need the support of the United States here," Zelensky said.
