This is said in a joint statement published on the White House website, Rubryka informs.
At the beginning of the summit of the alliance, the leaders of several allied countries made a joint statement regarding providing weapons and equipment to protect Ukraine from Russian airstrikes.
Methodical attacks by the Russian Federation on critical objects of Ukraine and, especially, its latest brutal attack on civilian objects, including a children's hospital, caused an immediate reaction among the leaders of NATO member states.
On the first day of the NATO summit, the following spoke with a joint statement on the provision of additional air defense systems to Ukraine:
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky joined them.
"Today we announce that we are jointly transferring to Ukraine additional strategic air defense systems, including additional Patriot batteries from the United States, Germany, and Romania, Patriot components provided by the Netherlands and other partners to ensure the operation of another Patriot battery, as well as an additional SAMP-T, donated by Italy," the document states.
It is emphasized that all five new strategic air defense systems will help protect Ukrainian cities, civilians, and the military.
"We are closely cooperating with the Ukrainian government so that these systems can be deployed quickly," the statement said.
Four Patriot batteries: three from the USA, Germany, and Romania, and one more will be jointly collected by the Netherlands and other partners. Italy will also transfer an additional SAMP-T system.
"These five strategic air defense systems will help protect Ukrainian cities, civilians, and the military, and we are working closely with the Ukrainian government to ensure that these systems can be deployed quickly," the US president said in his speech at the opening of the NATO summit in Washington on Tuesday, July 9.
In addition, the leaders of the five countries announced that they are working to provide Ukraine with dozens of other tactical-level air defense systems, such as NASAMS, HAWK, IRIS T-SLM, IRIS T-SLS, and Gepard, later this year.
"Our message to Moscow and the world is clear: our support for Ukraine is strong and unwavering," Biden said, speaking to the participants of the 75th anniversary NATO summit.
Several NATO members, including Canada, Norway, Spain, and the United Kingdom, will continue to play an essential role in transferring these systems to Ukraine, while other partners will assist in providing interceptor missiles.
In addition, the USA will redistribute the transfer of missiles for air defense systems to other countries in favor of Ukraine. This will provide the Ukrainian army with hundreds of missiles over the next year.
"We seek to provide Ukraine with additional air defense capabilities as it defends itself against Russia's aggression, including deliberate Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities and civilian and critical infrastructure," the authors of the statement emphasized.
The joint statement emphasizes:
"As we strengthen Ukraine's air defenses, we are grateful to the coalition of more than 50 countries that continue to provide Ukraine with security assistance, namely those partners who have pledged more than a billion dollars to the Immediate Action Initiative on Air Defense. We are also grateful to the Integrated Air and Missile Defense Capability Coalition, led by Germany and France, for its contribution to the defense of Ukraine. Our message to Moscow is strong and unwavering. We are working on the following list of additional strategic air defense systems for Ukraine."
Zelensky thanked Biden, as well as all partner countries (the USA, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy and Romania) "for adopting a powerful declaration in support of the air defense system of Ukraine to protect its people, cities and critical infrastructure."
