NATO draft communique describes Ukraine’s accession path as “irreversible” — CNN

The draft text of the joint communique, based on the results of the NATO leaders' summit, describes Ukraine's path to joining the North Atlantic Alliance as "irreversible."

It is noted that the draft text of the communique may still change before the final version, but the wording about the "irreversibility" of Ukraine's accession to NATO will be a significant signal for both Kyiv and Moscow.

According to one American official, the White House supports the wording about the "irreversibility" of Ukraine's accession to NATO in the final communique if the document also states that Ukraine should continue working on democratic reforms.

Previously, while many Europeans emphasized the need for decisive wording in the text regarding Ukraine's possible future in the Alliance, officials from the USA and Germany suggested specifying a "bridge" to Ukraine's membership in NATO.

What is known about the NATO summit to be held in Washington

We will remind that this year's NATO summit will be held from July 9 to 11 in Washington in the United States.

It was reported that during the meeting of the North Atlantic Alliance, which will be held in July this year, strengthening support for Ukraine will be one of the issues that the leaders of NATO member states will discuss.

As Rubryka already reported, on May 31, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that a special feature of the NATO summit on the occasion of the Alliance's 75th anniversary will be "a very strong package for Ukraine."

On the same day, the Secretary General of the Alliance, Jens Stoltenberg, stated that at the meeting in Prague, the NATO allies made progress on three issues: better coordination of the Alliance in the matter of arms supply and personnel training, determination of long-term financial support for Ukraine, and Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic integration.

It will be recalled that NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg invited Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky to the Alliance's anniversary summit in Washington on July 9-11.

As stated by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, the summit in Washington also plans to agree on a significant aid package for Ukraine.

In addition, a meeting between President Volodymyr Zelensky and American leader Joe Biden on the summit's sidelines is possible. At least the White House is preparing for such a meeting.
