Ukraine initiates UN Security Council emergency meeting due to Russian missile attack: 31 people killed, over 150 injured

Ukraine initiates an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council due to today's Russian missile attack on Ukraine, in particular, the attack on the Ohmatdyt children's hospital in Kyiv. As a result of a massive Russian missile attack, 28 people were killed, and more than 112 others were injured.

Rubryka reports this with reference to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during a joint press conference with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk after the signing of the security agreement.

"Ukraine is now initiating the convening of an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council in connection with the Russian attack on civilian infrastructure, including a children's hospital," Zelensky said.

The president said that Ukraine would "definitely respond to the inhumans from Russia" and restore the infrastructure damaged during the massive missile attack on July 8.

"Everyone who suffered is now being provided the necessary help. We must all work to hold Russia accountable for terror and Putin for ordering the strike," Zelensky said.

He added that Russia can only be forced to make peace.

Donald Tusk added that "there are no such words or political declarations" that would allow expressing full solidarity with Ukraine, which has been proving its heroism for many months.

The president noted that Russia is already spreading false information that the work of Ukrainian air defense caused the attack on the children's hospital. Still, there is evidence that it was a direct hit by an enemy missile.

In Ukraine, as of 3:00 p.m. on July 8, 28 people were killed, and more than 112 were injured as a result of a massive enemy rocket attack.

Currently, it is known about 11 dead in the Dnipropetrovsk region, namely in Kryvyi Rih and Dnipro, 17 — in Kyiv.
Also, 62 people were injured in the Dnipropetrovsk region and 2 in the Kyiv region.

In the capital, the number of wounded has increased to 66 people, 44 have been hospitalized, the mayor of the city, Vitalii Klitschko, said.

Russia damaged more than 50 civilian objects, including:

• residential buildings,
• business center,
• two medical institutions, particularly the Ohmatdyt children's hospital in the capital.

Emergency and rescue operations at the places of the biggest impacts are ongoing. Rescue workers, police officers, and utility services are working. Volunteers are also helping on the ground.

Moscow announced that it launched a missile attack on Ukrainian cities allegedly in response to Ukrainian shelling of energy facilities in Russia.

"In the morning, in response to attempts to cause damage to Russian energy and economy facilities, a group strike was carried out on the military industry facilities of Ukraine and the air bases of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
