Efforts are currently being undertaken in Ukraine to collaborate with international partners, businesses, and local authorities to implement distributed generation methods and bolster capacity before the onset of the following winter season.

The Minister of Energy Herman Halushchenko stated that, according to the Ministry of Energy's press service.

"Various locations have been pinpointed across the country for the installation of gas turbines and gas piston systems, which will help meet crucial electricity demands during the colder months," the minister said during a meeting with the director of the Secretariat of the Energy Community, Artur Lorkovsky.

Also, the parties considered the option of using the funds from the Energy Support Fund of Ukraine, which was created in the spring of 2022, to purchase necessary equipment. Currently, the total amount of donations to the Fund, both listed and announced, is over 545 million euros.

As Lorkovsky noted, according to the results of the Berlin Conference on the Reconstruction of Ukraine, the Fund is currently expected to receive new donations from donors.

Special attention was also paid during the meeting to the logistics of supplying energy equipment to Ukraine from partner countries and the protection of energy facilities.

In addition, the parties discussed:

  • the issue of further integration of the Ukrainian electricity market into the European one,
  • bills necessary for its implementation.

For reference:

It's important to mention that Ukraine's power generation capacity was reduced by 50% due to shelling, and the authorities are working to restore as much generation as possible before winter.

Thus, six mini CHP plants will be placed in Kyiv on the right and left banks of Dnipro River.

In addition, the Cabinet of Ministers [Ukraine's government—ed.] approved the order establishing the rules for applying blackout schedules, which will start working on June 24. The government hopes this will allow it to ensure "fair schedules."

Ukraine is expected to face a problematic energy situation this winter. The light can be turned on only 6-7 hours daily.
