Ukraine’s PM meets with German Bundesrat President, discussing interregional partnership and energy sector restoration

Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal met with the President of the German Bundesrat Manuela Schwesig in Kyiv.

The head of the Ukrainian government noted the high level of partnership between states, particularly between communities and regions.

"210 communal and seven interregional partnerships have already been concluded. We expect to continue working in this direction because it contributes to restoring and developing Ukrainian communities and cities," Denys Shmyhal said.

The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to Germany for hosting the Recovery Conference, which led to the signing of over 100 agreements worth 16 billion euros. Additionally, he thanked them for their support in rebuilding the Chernihiv region.

"Help in the field of energy is especially important. We appreciate the willingness of German businesses to provide the necessary equipment," the head of the government of Ukraine noted.

The parties discussed, among other things, the decentralization of the Ukrainian energy system and investments in the development of renewable energy. In addition, the topic of protecting infrastructure and people was raised. Denys Shmyhal thanked German partners for providing them with Patriot systems and missiles.

Manuela Schwesig noted that her visit demonstrates the solidarity of the German government and all federal states with Ukraine.

Denys Shmyhal, for his part, expressed his gratitude to the Government of Germany and Chancellor Olaf Scholz for their firm support and significant contribution to the strengthening of Ukraine.

As previously reported by Rubryka, Manuela Schwesig, the Prime Minister of the federal state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and head of the German Bundesrat, arrived in the Ukrainian capital on Monday, June 24, to hold negotiations with the political leadership.

The visit is "a sign of the solidarity of all 16 federal states with Ukraine," said Schwesig, who became the first head of the Bundesrat to visit Ukraine since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion.
