Ukraine has enough port capacity to cover all export needs: Odesa ports account for 87% of agricultural products sent to other countries.

Suspilne reports that Taras Vysotskyi, Ukraine's acting Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food, said this the day before during the Black Sea Security Forum.

As the acting minister noted, 75% of agricultural exports go to the ports of Greater Odesa:

  • Chornomorsk,
  • Pivdennyi,
  • Odesa

Another 12% — for ports located on the Danube River.

"This figure for the ports of Greater Odesa has increased several times. If we are talking about the Danube ports, then last year they worked actively, now their share has decreased a little," the official clarified.

Vysotskyi also added that port capacities are not in short supply at the moment, and they allow covering all export needs.

"As of today, port capacities allow us to cover all export needs; even this year, we will end with average final balances.

Currently, there is no shortage of port capacities, but this is also because 20% of the territories are temporarily occupied, that is, our production volumes are smaller," the minister noted.

At the same forum on June 14, the head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration announced that 46 million tons of products, including agricultural products, have been exported through Odesa ports since the beginning of 2024.

And this, according to him, is 70% more than last year.

What is known about the humanitarian corridor in the Black Sea

In August 2023, Ukraine announced a humanitarian corridor to free ships bound for African and Asian markets and to bypass Russia's de facto blockade after Moscow reneged on a deal that guaranteed its wartime exports.

The Navy of the Ukrainian Armed Forces announced the opening of a temporary corridor that can be used by all civilian vessels, including those in the ports of Odesa.

In addition, the Ukrainian government has created a new mechanism for insuring vessels against war risks, which will significantly reduce the current insurance premiums for carriers that export and import from or to Ukraine by sea.

It will be recalled that on March 3, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Ukraine will continue to develop the humanitarian program Grain from Ukraine.

The Grain from Ukraine program provides for the purchase of Ukrainian grain by partner countries and its transfer to states suffering from a humanitarian crisis. The program is implemented in partnership with the World Food Program under the auspices of the United Nations.

As Rubryka wrote, the intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Great Britain believes that Ukraine's high level of exports demonstrates its ability to export products through the shipping corridor in the Black Sea. This will also contribute to the recovery of the Ukrainian economy in 2024.

We remind you that in May, Ukraine exported a record 108,000 tons of sugar, of which 65% was sent to the European Union and 35% to other countries.
