Rebuilding Ukraine: EU provides Ukraine with €200 mln, 1,000 generators, and thousands of solar panels for energy facility repairs

In view of the Russian attacks on energy infrastructure, Ukraine will receive 200 million euros from the European Union to repair damaged energy facilities, 1,000 solar panels, and thousands of generators.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated this on June 11 during the Ukraine Recovery Conference 2024 in Berlin.

The head of the European Commission noted that "together we are mobilizing financial strength to help Ukraine endure and recover."

"This, of course, also includes constant material support given Russia's systematic attacks on the Ukrainian energy system. So far, we have collected about 200 million euros for urgent repair work," the head of the European Commission said.

In addition, according to von der Leyen, the European Union will provide another 1,000 generators and thousands of solar panels.

"In addition, we are providing another 1,000 generators for emergency electricity production. And thousands of solar panels are about to arrive in Ukraine," she added.

According to the head of the European Commission, the EU's goal is to help decentralize Ukraine's energy system and thus increase its stability.

In turn, Ukraine's President, Volodymyr Zelensky, on the sidelines of the Ukraine Recovery Conference, said that Ukraine, with the help of partners, plans to build up to 1 gigawatt of gas-fired power generation in 2024 and another 4 gigawatts in the coming years.

It should be noted that von der Leyen also stated at the Conference on the Reconstruction of Ukraine that Ukraine had completed all the necessary steps to start negotiations on joining the European Union by the end of this month.

The Berlin Reconstruction Conference (Ukraine Recovery Conference, URC2024) is the third reconstruction conference since the beginning of the full-scale war.

In July 2022, participants in Lugano (Switzerland) agreed on the main principles of reconstruction: it should be reform-oriented, transparent, democratic, and sustainable.

At the London 2023 conference, the focus was on mobilizing the private sector. In 2025, Italy will host the conference together with Ukraine.

Earlier, the German government announced that more than 2,000 participants from more than 60 countries would attend the event.

URC2024 will focus on the following four themes:

• business dimension – mobilization of the private sector for reconstruction and economic growth;
• human dimension — social recovery and human capital for the future of Ukraine;
• local and regional dimension — restoration of municipalities and regions;
• EU dimension – accession to the EU and relevant reforms.
