Lviv bicycle race fundraises UAH 1 mln to support children with cancer
One million hryvnias were collected to support the children of the Western Ukrainian Specialized Medical Center during the 7th charity bike race "I cycle, so they live."
Ukrinform writes about it, Rubryka reports.
What is the problem?
According to the National Cancer Registry, about 1,000 new cases of oncological diseases in children are diagnosed in Ukraine every year.
The most common cancers among Ukrainian children are leukemia (blood cancer) and brain cancer.
What is the solution?
In Lviv, a charity bike ride, "I cycle, so that they live," took place. During the ride, UAH 1 million (about $34 thousand) was collected to support the children of the West Ukrainian Specialized Medical Center.
This year's charitable contributions will help create a manipulation room with the possibility of surgical intervention, in which high-quality diagnostics and procedures will be performed to stabilize the condition of children with oncological diagnoses. Part of the amount, namely UAH220,500 (about $5500), was collected thanks to the charitable contributions of partners and participants of the bike ride. "More was added by the Lviv City Council, which annually joins the event and supports the young patients of the West Ukrainian Specialized Medical Center," noted Nataliia Bolibrukh, head of the Lviv branch of the Zaporuka charity fund.
How does it work?
Despite the rain and adverse weather conditions, more than a hundred Lviv residents and city guests came out for a big family holiday to support the children.
The event began near the Lviv National Opera and Ballet Theater with a charity fair where souvenirs could be purchased.
Before the start, professional athlete and coach Lyudmyla Lenska organized a cheerful workout session for the cycle race participants. Lux FM radio host Andrii Fertsak hosted the event, supporting the positive mood of cycling activists.
Traditionally, the mayor of Lviv, Andrii Sadovyi, joined the event.
"We add funds from the city budget and reach a million together. You always need to set an ambitious goal and achieve it. When there is a lack of strength, God helps, and there are strength and good people. Thank you to all the participants!" he emphasized.
It should be noted that in 2023, during the bicycle race "I cycle, so they live," funds were collected to reconstruct and arrange the reception area for critically ill patients at the Western Ukrainian Specialized Children's Medical Center in Lviv.
We will remind you that the Unbroken Kids rehabilitation center for children was opened in Lviv, where it will be possible to receive comprehensive medical care, from diagnostics and surgical interventions to prosthetics and full rehabilitation.
