Rebuilding Ukraine: Lithuania pledges €12 mln for Ukrainian school restoration and wounded rehabilitation

The Lithuanian government has approved new initiatives in support of Ukraine, which include the restoration of a school in the Mykolaiv region and the promotion of rehabilitation for wounded Ukrainian soldiers.

The Lithuanian broadcaster LRT reports this.

At a meeting on June 5, the Lithuanian government approved two new initiatives to help Ukraine:

• reconstruction of the school in Zelenyi Hay (Shevchenkivska rural community, Mykolaiv region),
• program of rehabilitation and reintegration of wounded and war-affected people in Ukraine.

The estimated cost of the school reconstruction project in Zeleny Hay is 2.7 million euros, of which 1.35 million euros are state budget funds allocated to the Fund for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid, and the rest is the contribution of the target partner.

A new modular school with a new shelter will be built as part of the project.

Up to 10 million euros have been earmarked for the financing and implementation of the program for the rehabilitation and reintegration of the wounded and victims of the war in Ukraine.

Funds from the Fund for the Development of Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid are intended for the implementation of three projects:

• reconstruction of the Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation Center of the Dnipro State University Hospital;
• reconstruction of the "Neskoreni" rehabilitation center in the Lviv region, in the village of Briukhovychi;
• strengthening and development of services of institutions and organizations working in the field of rehabilitation and reintegration services.

The Lithuanian Central Project Management Agency is responsible for implementing the projects.

The approved initiatives align with Lithuania's priorities for aiding in Ukraine's reconstruction and recovery, addressing the pressing needs of rebuilding Ukraine's educational system, providing medical and psychosocial support, and promoting reintegration. These efforts also build upon Lithuania's current work in these fields.

It should be noted that in April, Lithuania's support for Ukraine amounted to about one billion euros, of which about 610 million euros was military aid.

Moreover, the Lithuanian government approved the resolution prepared by the country's Ministry of Finance on the allocation of 5 million euros to support Ukraine's education sector.

In addition, by the end of the current year, Lithuania plans to build six underground schools in the Mykolaiv, Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, Sumy, Chernihiv, and probably Kharkiv regions.
