Canada to prioritize return of abducted Ukrainian children at Peace Summit – PM Trudeau
At the upcoming Peace Summit in Switzerland, Canada's primary focus is on ensuring the safe return of children whom Russia unlawfully deported from Ukraine.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced this in Ottawa.
"In two weeks, I will be in Switzerland, where I will speak to the global community about the importance of making progress in the peace process. I will pay special attention to the return of children whom Russia abducted from Ukraine," Trudeau said.
He also promised Ukraine "everything necessary" to win the war with Russia.
"Canada has been close to Ukraine and Ukrainians and will continue to provide support, both military and infrastructural, as well as everything necessary for Ukraine not only to win this war but also to continue to prosper and lead in the future," the Prime Minister noted.
As reported, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced he will participate in the Peace Summit in Switzerland in June this year.
"The first peace summit for Ukraine will take place in June, and Canada will be there," Trudeau wrote.
He is looking forward to the opportunity to join other world leaders to advance the common goal of a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.
For reference:
It should be noted that after the start of the full-scale Russian invasion, Canada has already provided Ukraine with various financial, humanitarian, military, and other assistance worth more than 10 billion US dollars.
The Global Peace Summit will be held in Switzerland on June 15-16. Heads of state and government from all continents are expected to participate. The participating countries will develop a joint negotiating position and submit it to Russia.
The Ukrainian Peace Formula is a diplomatic mechanism offered by Ukraine to achieve a just end to the war started by Russia.
It is worth mentioning that Ukraine and Canada launched the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children.
The International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children's Framework Document was jointly prepared. This founding document defines the coalition's mandate, goals, guiding principles, and directions of activity.
It also explains what membership in the coalition entails and outlines ways countries can participate in its work. Given its experience, expertise, and resources, each state can independently determine the areas in which it wants to act or even take the lead.
The coalition will focus on the following main goals:
- coordination of joint efforts,
- exchange of information, in particular at the intelligence level, to improve understanding and response to Russia's criminal actions,
- combining the capabilities of Ukraine, partner states, and international organizations to support the goals of the coalition,
- activation and coordination of actions aimed at joint solid advocacy and communication.
