Zelensky meets with Philippines leader to strengthen bilateral relations

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Manila, the capital of the Philippines, for an official visit. He held talks with the Philippine president to discuss bilateral relations.

The PNA has reported this news, and Zelensky has shared it on Telegram.

It is noted that Zelensky arrived in Manila for talks with the President of the Philippines, Ferdinand Marcos.

The leaders of the two states met at the Malacañang Palace on Monday morning.

However, the publication adds, that the Palace did not disclose the meeting details.

Later, Zelensky announced that he had arrived in the Philippines and had met with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

"I arrived in the Philippines and met with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for the first time in the history of our bilateral relations," Zelensky wrote.

He expressed his gratitude to the Philippines for supporting Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, for its precise position on Russia's aggression against Ukraine, and for supporting important UN resolutions.

According to the President, Ukraine intends to open an embassy in Manila this year to strengthen bilateral cooperation.

"We discussed the inaugural Global Peace Summit and the importance of representing the countries of Southeast Asia at it. We appreciate that the Philippines will take part in the Summit. We also discussed bilateral cooperation, particularly the export of Ukrainian agricultural products to the Philippines," the Ukrainian head of state informed.

Zelensky flew to the Philippines from Singapore, where he participated in the Shangri-La Dialogue security forum.

It's worth mentioning that President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Singapore on June 1 to attend the "Dialogue Shangri-La" conference, where he was scheduled to give a speech.

During the sidelines of the annual "Dialogue Shangri-La," an Asian Security Summit held in Singapore, the leader of Ukraine had a meeting with the President-elect of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto. Once again, he congratulated him on his March victory in the elections.

Also in Singapore, Zelensky met with the bipartisan delegation of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the US House of Representatives, led by its chairman, Republican Party member Mike McCaul.

Additionally, the Ukrainian president met with Timor-Leste's president, José Manuel Ramos-Horta, marking the first-ever bilateral meeting between the two countries.

Volodymyr Zelensky also met with Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin on the sidelines of the Asian Summit held in Singapore.
