Zelensky arrives in Sweden to sign three security agreements and attend Ukraine-Northern Europe Summit

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in the capital of Sweden, where he will participate in the Ukraine-Northern Europe Summit. Three agreements on security guarantees are also planned to be signed during the visit.

Today, May 31, the third Ukraine-Northern Europe Summit will be held in Stockholm. As the president noted, Ukraine's main priorities are:

• more air defense systems,
• provision of military weapons,
• defense production,
• global work to force Russia to peace.

Zelensky said that he would meet with the Prime Minister of Sweden, Ulf Kristersson, the President of Finland, Alexander Stubb, the Prime Minister of Denmark, Mette Frederiksen, the Prime Minister of Norway, Jonas Gahr Støre, and the Prime Minister of Iceland, Bjarni Benediktsson.

Zelensky will also meet with the King of Sweden, Karl XVI, and representatives of defense companies.

"Today, Ukraine will sign three security agreements at once, which will fix the projected defense and other versatile support for a long period," the head of state said.

It is worth noting that the day before, Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky announced plans for new collaborations with partners to supply new air defense systems and joint production of weapons, specifically on Ukrainian territory.

It should be noted that on July 12, 2023, on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Vilnius, the leaders of the G7 countries agreed on a Joint Declaration on support for Ukraine. The document discussed, in particular, the work on specific bilateral long-term obligations and agreements in the field of security.

Portugal became the 12th country with which Ukraine concluded a bilateral security agreement to implement the provisions of the G7 Joint Declaration adopted in Vilnius on July 12 last year.

Before that, Ukraine signed bilateral agreements with Great Britain, Germany, France, Denmark, Canada, Italy, the Netherlands, Finland, Latvia, Spain and Belgium.
