United to win: Ukraine and Sweden sign security agreement to strengthen partnership

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, and the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Sweden, Ulf Kristersson, signed the Agreement on Cooperation in the Security Sector in Stockholm.

The Office of the President reports this.

During the years 2024-2026, Sweden will provide Ukraine with military aid worth SEK 75 billion (about EUR 6.5 billion), which will be approximately EUR 2.2 billion per year. The amount of assistance will increase during the ten-year term of the document.

Military support of Ukraine covers:

• aviation and air defense,
• armored vehicles,
• artillery,
• strengthening maritime security,
• assistance in demining,
• unmanned aerial vehicles.

Sweden has already provided and will continue to provide Ukraine with Archer artillery systems and CV90 combat vehicles. The partners will also explore opportunities for joint production.

A unique part of the agreement with Sweden is the provision of specialized ASC 890 aircraft and the prospect of transferring JAS 39 Gripen aircraft to Ukraine, including relevant training.

Sweden will also support the development of Ukraine's modern defense and industrial potential and develop bilateral cooperation in localizing, repairing, maintaining, and producing Swedish defense products in Ukraine.

Separate blocks of the agreement concern:

• support for the Ukrainian peace formula,
• sanctions,
• compensation for damages,
• bringing the aggressor to justice,
• and assistance to Ukraine in economic recovery, reconstruction, and protection of critical infrastructure.

In addition, Sweden clearly confirmed its support for Ukraine's path to membership in the EU and NATO.

For reference:

The agreement was signed to implement the G7 Joint Declaration, adopted on July 12, 2023. In total, Ukraine has already concluded 13 bilateral security agreements with Great Britain, Germany, France, Denmark, Canada, Italy, the Netherlands, Finland, Latvia, Spain, Belgium, Portugal, and Sweden.
