With support from BGV Charity Fund, three Ukrainian prosthetics experts trained at Ottobock

BGV Charity Fund handled all the organization and logistical costs, while the German non-profit organization # WeAreAllUkrainians funded the stay in Germany.

Due to the ongoing war in Ukraine, many people are losing limbs. Despite the high demand for prosthetic specialists, this profession is taught at only three higher education institutions in the country. Their graduates are not enough to meet the need for these specialists.

"Our fund had the opportunity to select and send three prosthetics experts for a three-month training at the German company Ottobock. We contacted the Ukrainian rehabilitation center 'Halychyna,' as we work with them on a program for prosthetic care for Ukrainian soldiers," said Polina Aldoshina, director of BGV Charity Fund. "They helped us choose specialists who met all the company's requirements. All expenses for the stay in Germany were covered by the German non-profit organization #WeAreAllUkrainians. The BGV fund took care of all organization and covered logistical costs."

During the training, the Ukrainian specialists learned how to measure amputated lower limbs correctly, make prostheses, fit and adjust them, work with above-knee amputations, and provide psychological support to patients and their families.

Prosthetics is a complex and lengthy process with many stages. First, the patient's wounds must heal, followed by a rehabilitation course, after which prosthetic fitting occurs. Patients will need to visit their prosthetist throughout their lives for adjustments due to changes in the amputated limb, lifestyle, physical condition, etc. Therefore, the need for prosthetic specialists will remain high even after the war ends.

Ottobock is a globally recognized leader in producing and installing innovative prosthetics, orthotics, exoskeletons, and wheelchairs.
