Josep Borrell, the EU's High Representative, sees Russia's efforts to block the Global Peace Summit in Switzerland as clear proof of the forum's significance in achieving fair peace in Ukraine.

According to Ukrinform, he stated this in Brussels before the meeting of the defense ministers of the European Union countries.

"Right now in the negotiations (regarding the Switzerland Peace Summit – ed.), there is much pressure on everyone to make this June forum a success," Borrell said.

He emphasized that Russia is doing the same, but to disrupt the summit. Russia is putting pressure on the countries, in particular BRICS, not to participate in the Swiss peace conference and proposing to hold a similar meeting in Moscow.

"If they (the Russians) don't want countries to join the peace summit in Switzerland so much, then this forum is really very important," Borrell said.

During the press conference following the results of the EU Council of Ministers for Foreign Affairs, the EU High Representative Josep Borrell said that while speaking allegedly about peace negotiations, Putin continues his barbaric attacks against the civilian infrastructure and the civilian population of Ukraine and is trying to undermine the upcoming Peace Summit in Switzerland, which will be dedicated to finding ways to the future peace process.

As Rubryka previously reported, referring to the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, Kremlin leader Volodymyr Putin does not just want to disrupt the Global Peace Summit: he fears what this summit can bring.

For reference:

As reported by Rubryka, in January 2024, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, and the President of the Swiss Confederation, Viola Amherd, agreed to start preparations for holding the Global Peace Summit at the level of state leaders in Switzerland.

It will be recalled that in November 2022, Zelensky first voiced the "peace formula," which should contribute to the end of a full-scale war on fair terms.

The aforementioned "formula" will be discussed during the Global Peace Summit in Switzerland. The Russian Federation is not among the invited participants.

Earlier, the head of the President's Office, Andriy Yermak, suggests that Russia may participate in the global peace summit, but not at the first meeting.

The Swiss government has decided to hold a two-day high-level conference on June 15-16 to achieve peace in Ukraine. Russia will not participate in the event.
