Sweden authorizes Ukraine to use its weapons to attack Russia
Ukraine received permission from Sweden to attack the Russian Federation with the weapons that Stockholm handed over to it.
Rubryka reports that the country's Minister of Defense, Pål Jonson, stated this to Hallandsposten.
According to the official, Ukraine is the object of an unprovoked and illegal aggressive war on the part of Russia, and therefore has the right to defend itself with the help of "military actions directed against the enemy's territory, if these actions comply with the laws and customs of war."
"According to international law, Ukraine has the right to defend itself with military actions aimed at the enemy's territory if they comply with the laws of war. Sweden supports international law and Ukraine's right to self-defense," the message states.
Weapons that Ukraine received from Sweden
During the entire period of the Russian Federation's full-scale war against Ukraine, official Stockholm transferred a number of weapons to Ukraine, among them are:
- CV90 infantry fighting vehicles,
- TOW anti-tank missile systems,
- Robot 70 portable anti-aircraft missile systems,
- Archer self-propelled artillery installations.
Archer installations are capable of striking at a distance of 30 km with a conventional projectile, 40 km with a rocket engine, and 60 km with an Excalibur-guided projectile.
Strikes on the territory of the Russian Federation
As you know, from the very beginning of the full-scale invasion, the US forbids Ukraine from hitting the territory of the Russian Federation with American weapons.
Recently, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) published a conclusion that if it were not for this ban, the new offensive of the Russian Federation in the north of the Kharkiv region would not have been so successful. According to analysts, US restrictions on Ukraine's ability to strike military targets in Russia have created sanctuaries in the border areas of the Russian Federation, from where Russian aircraft can launch planned bomb and missile strikes on Ukrainian positions and populated areas.
President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that the possibility of using Western weapons on the territory of Russia is not an offensive but the protection of Ukrainians.
However, the Pentagon stated that American weapons are intended for use on the territory of Ukraine.
In turn, the head of the Pentagon said that the US expects that Ukraine will use the provided weapons on its territory only.
Ukraine already has permission to strike Russia with weapons provided to it by Lithuania, Finland, the Czech Republic, and Great Britain.
