Female entrepreneurship booms in Ukraine – survey
In Ukraine, women are continuously developing their entrepreneurial skills. In the first quarter of this year, 59% of all new individual entrepreneurs in the country were women, the highest number in recent years.
"Opendatabot" reports this with reference to information from the Unified State Register.
In the first quarter of the year, female entrepreneurs opened over 43,500 individual businesses, compared to the 30,500 new cases opened by men during the same period.
The percentage of women has reached an all-time high in recent years. For comparison, in the first quarter of 2021, women accounted for 51% of all newly established individual enterprises.
Usually, women tend to open businesses in:
- the retail sector, with women making up 68% and men comprising 32%.
- offering individual services, where women account for 89% and men for 11%;
- providing information services, with women representing 63% and men 37%.
Men more often choose:
- computer programming,
- wholesale trade.
Overall, over 74,000 individual entrepreneurs were registered in Ukraine during the first quarter of 2024. This marks a 33.6% increase compared to last year's period and is even higher than before the full-scale invasion in 2021.

In February, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced that the government would attract five instruments of assistance to the Ukrainian producer. In particular, the state will provide domestic manufacturers with priority access to public procurement and expand the compensation program for equipment purchases.
Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin signed an order on prosecutors' work standards in investment protection. It, in particular, provides that searches of businesses are an extreme investigative action.
