United to win: France to provide Ukraine with advanced missiles for SAMP/T air defense system
France will supply Ukraine with a new batch of Aster anti-aircraft missiles for the SAMP/T air defense system.
According to Reuters, the Minister of the Armed Forces of France, Sebastien Lecornu, announced this during hearings in the National Assembly.
"I can confirm that I have recently signed the second shipment of Aster missiles specifically to ensure the continued operation of the SAMP/T air defense system, which we transferred in collaboration with our Italian partners. This system is crucial in intercepting Russian missiles," Lecornu said.
No specific information was provided regarding the quantity and timeline for the transferred missiles. However, the company responsible, MBDA, is currently working to accelerate the production of these missiles.
This is in addition to "working with MBDA on missile recovery," which "allows us to provide everything to Ukraine without compromising our stockpile," the armed forces minister added.
"The situation on the front line is really tense. It is also explained by the fact that the Russian troops are trying to take advantage of this period of delay in the arrival of American aid. There is a delay, and therefore there is very significant pressure from the armed forces of the Russian Federation from this side," Lecornu noted.
For reference:
As Rubryka previously reported, France promised to deliver 40 long-range SCALP cruise missiles to Ukraine. They have already shown their effectiveness during the war. At the same time, it will not deplete its own strategic missile reserves.
