The Ka-52, known as the "Alligator" helicopter, was designed for conducting terrain reconnaissance and coordinating the actions of a fleet of other helicopters. Additionally, it is equipped to engage targets such as armor, personnel, and airborne objects. The nickname "Alligator" was given due to its physical resemblance to the silhouette of an actual alligator.
It is worth noting that as of May 13, Ukrainian defense forces have successfully taken down 350 Russian aircraft and 325 helicopters.
It should be noted that during February and early March, the Air Force of Ukraine's armed forces reported the destruction of 14 Russian aircraft:
- On February 17 — two Su-34 fighter-bombers and one Su-35 fighter;
- On February 18 — Su-34;

In addition, on February 23, the Defense Forces reported that a Russian A-50 aircraft was shot down over the Sea of Azov.
Ukraine's intelligence noted that it was possible to shoot down a new modernized Russian version of the plane, the cost of which is 350 million dollars. This is the second A-50 destroyed by the Ukrainian army since the beginning of the war.
Also, on April 19, the Russian Tu-22M3 bomber, which attacked Ukraine on the night of April 19, was shot down by Ukrainian defenders at a distance of about 300 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.
