EU ambassadors agree on draft security agreement with Ukraine

The European Union ambassadors have already agreed on the draft bilateral security agreement between Ukraine and the EU, which will continue the G7 declaration on "security guarantees" and is planned to be finalized by the end of June.

A foreign media outlet claims to have a draft text for a deal being negotiated between Kyiv and the European External Action Service. The ambassadors of 27 member countries allegedly agreed to the 11-page document.

The article notes that the EU wants to complete work on the agreement by the beginning of July at the latest.

The draft text contains provisions that:

• the EU undertakes to hold consultations on Ukraine's needs within 24 hours in the event of a new aggression against Ukraine.
• the EU promises to ensure further supply of military aid, help with military training, demining, reforms in the defense sector, cooperate in countering hybrid threats and cyber attacks, and help with reconstruction.

Supposedly, a separate provision excludes direct participation in hostilities of "EU member states' military."

We will remind that Ukraine has already concluded nine bilateral security agreements with:

• Great Britain,
• Germany,
• France, Denmark,
• Canada,
• Italy,
• the Netherlands,
• Finland,
• Latvia

Negotiations for an agreement with Norway have already been completed.

Recently, the president's office stated that they hope to finalize the text of the agreement with the US by the end of May and that they have agreed to start negotiations with neutral Ireland.

On May 11, they announced the start of negotiations with Belgium.
