Russia shells Sumy region, killing a woman and injuring a girl

A 64-year-old woman was killed, and a 17-year-old girl was wounded due to Russian shelling on the morning of May 10 in the Esmansk community of the Shostka district in the Sumy region.

The regional prosecutor's office reported that on Telegram.

"According to the investigation, on May 10, 2024, from 07:10, using methods of warfare prohibited by international law, the occupiers shelled the civilian infrastructure of the Esmansk community of the Shostka district with artillery for an hour. As a result of the enemy's attack, a 64-year-old woman died, and her 17-year-old granddaughter was injured injuries," the post reads.

There is currently an ongoing pre-trial investigation regarding a violation of laws and customs of war, as well as intentional murder (under Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

In general, during the night and morning of May 10, Russian troops carried out 11 shelling of the border areas and settlements of the Sumy region.

Sixty-one explosions were reported to have occurred in the communities of Khotin, Bilopillia, Nova Sloboda, Esmansk, and Seredyno-Buda.

On May 9, the Russians carried out 60 shelling of the border areas and settlements of the Sumy region.

Thus, on the night of May 6, the Russian invaders attacked Ukraine from the north with 13 Shahed-131/136 type UAVs. Air defense forces destroyed 12 enemy attack UAVs in the Sumy region.

Given this backdrop, specific communities in the region began forcibly evacuating families with children. This caused significant concern among the residents of settlements near the Russian border. Specifically, the Seredyno-Buda and Velyka Pysarivka communities in the Sumy region decided to evacuate children forcibly.

However, the Russian occupiers destroyed the bridge, which made it difficult to evacuate from the border village of Luhivka in the Sumy region.

Additionally, the local military authorities of the Sumy region have implemented further restrictions in 15 communities near the Russian border.

News has emerged that three Russian sabotage and reconnaissance units attempted to enter the Sumy region in the span of one week but were halted by border guards.
