For reference:

The Cannes Film Festival (French: Le Festival International du Film de Cannes or simply Festival de Cannes) is an international film festival held yearly in the resort city of Cannes (France, Cote d'Azur).

It is included in the so-called "Big Five" of the most prestigious film festivals (along with film festivals in Venice (Italy), Berlin (Germany), Sundance (USA) and Toronto (Canada).

More than 35,000 cinema professionals from all over the world attend the festival every year, including more than 1,000 screenwriters and directors, 4,000 distributors, 5,000 producers, and 4,000 journalists.

The idea of creating such a festival was caused by the intervention in 1938 of the totalitarian governments of Germany and Italy in the selection of prize winners of the Venice Film Festival. At the suggestion of the French historian Philippe Erlanger (who later became an official delegate of the festival and a jury member), the then Minister of Education of France Jean Zey decided to introduce a film festival in Cannes.

In 1939, Louis Lumière agreed to become the president of the first film festival in Cannes, which was scheduled to open on September 1, 1939. However, due to the beginning of the Second World War, the opening was postponed for seven years, and the festival started on September 20, 1946. It lasted from September 20 to October 5, 1946, in one of the old Cannes casinos.

It should be noted that two Ukrainian films were shown in Krakow from April 26 to May 5 at the OFF CAMERA International Independent Film Festival.

In addition, the Ukrainian film Forever-Forever won the main prize at the 33rd Film Festival Cottbus in the German city of Cottbus.
