The Independent: Russia ceases weapon transportation across Kerch Bridge

Due to multiple Ukrainian assaults on the Kerch Bridge, the Russian Federation started using ground routes in the occupied eastern region of Ukraine to transport weapons to its front line.

The British publication, referring to the data of the largest Ukrainian private intelligence agency, Molfar, notes that the analysis of satellite images shows practically no traffic on the Kerch bridge, and "therefore, it can no longer be an effective military target for the ammunition-limited Ukrainian forces."

Images taken by satellite specialists Maxar, analyzed by Molfar and sent to The Independent show that almost no military freight trains have run on the bridge's rail line for three months.

On February 29, only one Russian freight train was seen on the bridge, carrying about 55 wagons of fuel.

The analysis notes that Russia significantly reduced the use of the bridge after Ukraine attacked it on July 17, 2023, and blew up a section of the road and a railroad track.

It should be noted that on July 17, explosions rang out on the Crimean Bridge. The span leading to Tamani was utterly destroyed, and the span towards Kerch suffered damage.

According to Ukrainian Security Service media sources, the explosions were caused by a joint operation between the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) and the Naval Forces. Surface drones targeted the bridge. In light of this, the SSU stressed that international laws and warfare regulations permit disrupting enemy supply routes.

In addition, on October 8, 2022, the bridge over the Kerch Strait experienced an explosion followed by a fire. Part of the road surface collapsed, blocking traffic.
