Goncharenko Center launches special course to provide free English training for State Emergency Service rescuers

Goncharenko Center, a network of educational and cultural facilities, initiates free online English courses for State Emergency Service employees. These courses will follow a specialized curriculum that focuses on vocabulary and topics essential for communicating with international colleagues and enhancing the spoken English skills of Ukrainian rescuers.

What is the problem?

English is likely to become the official language of international communication in Ukraine, increasing the number of people eager to learn it. Rescuers will also be required to be proficient in English.

However, classes with tutors can be pretty expensive. Moreover, a significant amount of specialized vocabulary is needed to communicate effectively with international instructors or colleagues.

What is the solution?

The Goncharenko Center, an all-Ukrainian network of educational and cultural spaces, has launched a specialized free online course to assist State Emergency Service employees learn English.

According to the director of the educational online space, Victoria Zakharova, the pilot classes of the course started at the end of 2023.

"The State Emergency Service employees in Rivne and Netishyn, Khmelnytskyi, have been making great progress in their English learning at our centers. Just recently, we introduced a specialized online course for the Kherson regional team of the State Emergency Service. Our teachers have a strong understanding of the specific needs of these rescuers and the training program," Victoria Zakharova shares.

How does it work?

At the first stage of the online courses for the State Emergency Service, the project team offers to join the training immediately at three levels:

• pre-A1,
• A1,
• A2.

"We are prepared to organize study groups for specific regions and all State Emergency Service personnel interested in enhancing their English skills. Would you like to learn the language used across the entire administration? Not a problem. Are you interested in joining colleagues from different cities or regions? It's easy! We aim to assist in improving spoken English and acquainting rescuers with specialized terminology. In other words, we strive to alleviate any concerns about language barriers among emergency workers when communicating with foreign counterparts," the educational center shares.

Formation of training groups will begin in May, but registration for the course will remain open indefinitely to reach as many rescuers as possible.

The class schedule and frequency will be figured out, considering the busy schedules of our emergency services staff and any missed classes due to work commitments. Students in the rescue program will have access to the recorded sessions.

It was also reported that a school of UAV operators for teenagers is being launched in the educational, cultural, and volunteer space of the Goncharenko Center in Ivano-Frankivsk. All classes are free and intended for schoolchildren and students aged 14 to 18.

In addition, the DrukArmy volunteer community and the educational and cultural spaces of the Goncharenko Center are launching a network of free 3D printing workshops. The project will work in Dnipro, Kyiv, and Odesa in the first stage.
