Rebuilding Ukraine: Ukrainian government allocates over $13 mln for vocational schools to train veterans and displaced persons to reconstruct country
Ukraine's government distributed UAH 549 million [over $13 mln – ed.] to the regions to update workshops in vocational schools, where veterans and displaced persons will be able to study free of charge: later, graduates of educational institutions will rebuild Ukraine.
The Minister of Digital Transformation, Mykhailo Fedorov, reported that on Telegram.
What is the problem?
According to Dmytro Zavhorodnyi, Deputy Minister of Education and Science for Digital Development, Digital Transformations, and Digitalization, the Ukrainian government prioritizes reforming vocational education.
Proof of this is the investment in the field, which does not stop even in the conditions of a full-scale war.
"During the post-war recovery period, we will require many competent workers with up-to-date knowledge and abilities. However, we must address these needs now," he emphasized.
In Ukraine, the initial selection of 72 vocational education institutions has been completed to provide training in professions necessary to reconstruct regions. The issue now is funding for professional education.
What is the solution?
Therefore, according to Fedorov, the government took another important step—it distributed UAH 549 million among the regions.
"The labor market urgently needs many new specialists, and we are transforming the professional education system to respond to this demand quickly. Professional technicians and their graduates are the basis for the country's reconstruction," the government official emphasized.
How does it work?
According to the minister, with this money, 88 modern workshops will be created in vocational schools, where specialists will be trained to rebuild the country.
The head of the department emphasized, "What is important is that veterans and displaced persons will also be able to study there free of charge, learn a new profession, and quickly find a job."
In addition, welders, machinists, fitters, and other manual laborers were crucial to Ukraine during the war.
"That's why the government today redistributed an additional 49 million UAH so that 16 more workshops were added to the project. In general, the state will update 88 workshops in vocational schools, and international partners will help update others within the scope of the #100 workshops project," emphasized Fedorov.
In addition, as the minister noted, within the framework of this project, two workshops are also planned for operators of civil drones, particularly land and watercraft.
The department head said, "The profession of drone operator will be licensed already this year."
Fedorov emphasized that the renewal of professional technical facilities is a priority for the state and partners, so this year the institutions will receive even more new and modern equipment.
"For example, machine tools, tool sets, combine harvesters, tractors, and much more," the minister said.
He stated that the Ministry of Education and Science is currently working on a new draft law for professional education. Fedorov has invited people to participate in the discussion.
