Ukrainian masters break record with the largest Easter egg painting

On April 30, the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy, in collaboration with the NGO "Institute of Culture of Ukraine," held the Ukrainian Easter Egg Festival at UNIT.CITY Innovation Park. The festivities included painting 800 Easter Eggs, setting a new record for Ukraine.

The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy reports this.

The festival brought together masters from all over Ukraine, who held master classes in "pysankarstvo" [Ukrainian tradition of Easter egg painting – ed.] for young people. The Easter eggs created will be handed over to the defenders at the front with the help of the International Headquarters for Aid to Ukrainians.

"The traditional pysanka [Easter egg – ed.] was, is, and will be. As a National Union, we will make many more creations, and we will also teach young people – from kindergartens to student circles," emphasized the master of Eater egg painting, co-author of the submission to the National List of Elements of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Ukraine "Ukrainian pysanka: tradition and art" Zoya Stashuk.

During the event, the Director General of the Book of World Records, Hanna Krysiuk, announced the establishment of the Record for the most massive painting of Easter eggs by masters from different regions of Ukraine.

"Within 5 hours, 530 participants made 800 Easter eggs. The Ukrainian record has been set!" she said.

Also, during the festival, Ukrainian chef Yevhen Klopotenko held a master class where he showed how to assemble an Easter basket.

 

"Our organization has a priority: to collect funds for food kits for Ukrainians in the front-line zones and to popularize Ukraine's cultural heritage because this identifies us in the world as a nation. This event is precisely about popularizing intangible heritage—"pysankarstvo," said Maryna Sobotiuk, co-organizer of the event and co-founder of the NGO Institute of Culture of Ukraine.

She added that "traditions live as long as they are passed on to young people, and since there were mostly young people at the event, it means that the traditions of "pysankarstvo" will be passed down from generation to generation."

Rostyslav Karandeev, acting Minister of Culture and Information Policy, also attended the celebration.

"On the eve of Easter, we were united by the tradition of "pysankarstvo." We should find bright events that unite us and add vitality so that we can fight the enemy and create.

I thank all the masters who find inspiration in themselves and put their soul into this art. With you, we are sure that the tradition of "pysankarstvo" will not only be preserved but passed on to future generations of Ukrainians," the head of the ministry noted.

He thanked the masters for their contribution to preserving the tradition.

Karandeev also reminded that Ukraine and Estonia submitted the nomination "Pysanka: Ukrainian tradition and the art of decorating eggs" for inclusion in the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Heritage.

He thanked the Estonian government for its support and expressed hope that the organization will soon recognize the Ukrainian pysanka as a heritage of humanity.

It should be noted that the craftswoman Halyna Kovalska from Zhovkva, Lviv region, set a Ukrainian record. She crafted ten embroidered Easter eggs ranging from 0.9 to 1.5 meters tall.
