United to win: Norway pledges $600 mln to Ukraine for air defense and humanitarian aid

The Norwegian government will allocate an extra 600 million dollars in 2024 to bolster Ukrainian air defense and provide humanitarian aid.

Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre stated this, according to VG.

As the publication writes, on Tuesday, April 30, political parties in the Norwegian parliament supported the government's proposal to increase support for Ukraine in 2024 by 7 billion Norwegian kroner – more than 600 million dollars.

After the meeting, Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre announced that 6 billion kroner from this amount would go mainly to air defense equipment and another billion to other support.

With these changes, Norway will provide direct support of 22 billion kroner as aid to Ukraine in 2024.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky thanked Norway for the decision on Twitter (X).

"It is essential that most of these funds will be directed to strengthening Ukraine's air defense, which is our highest priority for protecting people's lives. We appreciate Norway's constant support, understanding of our urgent needs, and readiness to be with us at a crucial time," he noted.

Earlier, Rubryka reported that the Norwegian government is starting a new grant program and will allocate almost $6.4 million to strengthen civil society in Ukraine. The project will operate until 2027.

Norway has decided to join the Czech initiative to purchase ammunition for Ukraine $153 million for this purpose.

Also, Ukraine and Norway have agreed to strengthen cooperation in the energy sector within the Nansen support program, which assists Ukraine in the amount of 75 billion kroner.

The Norwegian government proposes to the parliament to order ten more NASAMS missile launchers and four more fire control centers from Kongsberg Defense and Aerospace (KDA).
